Hi, about a month ago there was an adorable feral cat who was very pregnant. I had been feeding her for about 2 months. On August 15th she disappeared for some time and when I saw her again she was no longer pregnant -- she cam back a day or two later. She seems to come daily for food and then disappears. I put food out twice a day -- early morning and at night. She will eat near me but is still quite timid. I have yet to see her kittens. Does this mean that something has happened to them. She continues to eat regularly but I have seen no signs of them yet. They are about 4 weeks old going on 5 as they were born on August 15th or August 16th. Is it possible that they are alive but not old enough to venture from the nest? Or could something of happended to them. She seems to live in the woods around the back of my apartment. Also, what do nests typically look like?

My guess is they are alive.  She will probably come with them to you, the friendly food source, in one week or two... or three...  Nest? it can be anything.  some do have them under a bush, nothing else...    A pain-tree "Chrismas tree" perhaps. A big such isnt not so bad.  Some may have been smart enough to find them something better...

You CAN try and follow after her, talking sweetly and friendly.  She will prob led you astray, but with a liiittle luck, she can lead you to them, if she trusts you.

It is easier to foster them now into fully socialized friendly homecats, then when they are 8 weeks.

So good you do continue to give her food, and make your best to befriend her.  Your great moment will come, dont worry!  If not now, so in a couple three weeks.

*vibes!*

Kittens will be 6 weeks old now if they are still alive, so you might see them soon.  If there is any way you can trap her and get her neutered that would be the best thing for her.  Start finding out now, give it another 2-3 weeks but no longer as she will get pregnant again quite soon, especially with the food she is getting from you.  Ideally you will also trap & neuter the kittens, otherwise you will have a cat population explosion on your hands.  You might find some organisations in your area (wherever it is) that help with TNR - trap, neuter, return.
