Hi all.
So happy I've discovered your site. Last night I found a very severely emaciated Persian cat on the street outside my home. She is so poorly that she didn't even try to move when cars drove directly beside her. I thought she'd been hit but was gladly mistaken. So, now she's in my 1st floor bathroom separated from my other 2 adult cats.
I soaked the adult food I have on hand and she has been very, very slowly eating small amounts which I thought was good - I know she shouldn't eat room much too quickly. Other than the water in the food I've only seen her drink water but once.
My biggest concern at this moment is that she has yet to urinate. I'm worried about organ damage from her ordeal. I'm not in a position to be able to take her to a vet :(
Ant advice that could help her is welcomed. I'd planned on purchasing some wet kitten food for her today but I'm uncertain if that's too rich at this time. I truly hope she will begin to turn around soon!

Hello and welcome to TCS. Thank you SOOOOO much for rescuing her!

Small frequent meals of the kitten food would be great. Your right, you don't want her to eat too much at one sitting, but the kitten food would add much needed fat and nutrients. It's normal for cats not to drink much, which is why wet food is better for them. This gives them more much needed water. She is probably very dehydrated and may take some time to pee. You should try hard though to find the funds to have her seen by a vet. You could call your local SPCA or humane society and see if they have clinics or can recommend a low cost vet in your area. Local rescue groups may have vets they can recommend also.

Keep her warm and calm.  You can make a rice sock with plain white rice and an old sock.  Fill the sock partially with rice, warm in the microwave, and then place it near her.  You might want to wrap it in a hand towel so it's not too hot for her.  Get her to your vet as soon as you can for a thorough check up.  If you can get to the store today for some kitten canned food, that would be very good for her as it's loaded with nutrients.  You can add a bit of plain baby pedialyte to the wet food to help replenish her nutrients and electrolytes as well.  You will probably need to have her shaved to get rid of mats and such and she'll definitely need to be de-flead and dewormed.  Take it slow and easy with her.  Is she alert today?

Just wanted to check and see how your cat was doing.  I hope she is hanging in there.

Well her name is now Gizmo :)
She had a good night. Eating the wet kitten food, but not too quickly. She's also used the litter box to urinate once. She continues to sleep loads but is more lively when we are with her. Adores being brushed, which is great and we're getting through all the matted hair slowly :)
I've checked with agencies but none could take her. My husband and I are keeping an eye out for 'lost pet' advertisements, but no match yet. I think she's been on her own for quite a while, and we live by some rail tracks so she could be from anywhere. Going to be taking her to the vets soon for a check up, so fingers crossed that she's on her way back to good health.

Awwww.....I'm so glad you rescued this poor kitty!
I'm sure she needs the rest and is probably very exhausted. I'm very happy to read that she is eating.  Hugs to you for taking her in!

I am glad to hear she used the litter box and at least appears to be getting some hydration.  Let us know how the vet visit goes.

What a pretty girl. I'm sure her owners are worried sick about her. Keep an eye out on Craig's list, lost and found. Hopefully her people will turn up.

I'm wondering if this girl has a micro chip?!if she does that will find her family if she is lost. You'll need to have her scanned to see if she has one. Bless you for rescuing her.

Sounds like things are progressing well.  Slow and easy with her and she'll be back on her feet in no time.  Please let us know what the vet says after your visit.

So Gizmo saw the vet today. No infections, checkup was perfect except her weight...3lbs7oz! Couldn't believe it. The Vet puts her at 8 yrs old. Unfortunately she was not chipped, so no owner thus far. We're continuing to feed her and hope she gains appropriately. Next checkup and booster shots in 4 wks.

Wow, she really is emaciated at that weight and is so lucky you found her! Lots of :vibes: that she manages to gain weight and regain her energy quickly.

How fortunate for Gizmo that she ended up in front of your house! Thank you for caring and I hope you get as much love, comfort, and joy out of the experience as she is getting :) I'm sure she'll be gaining weight in no time, once she has adjusted a bit more. Please post photos of her progress, if you can.

I'm so glad to hear she is otherwise healthy, except for her weight. Poor thing! I doubt she'd have survived much longer had you not found her and taken her in (or had she not found you!) Thank you again for saving Gizmo. Love the name! Keep us posted on her progress.
