Tinker is 24 weeks old this Friday and i am booking her in to be spayed, there is a 3 week waiting list at the moment.

Firstly neither Tinker or Wellington have had their vaccinations yet as they came for a rescue shelter and then they were both poorly with cat flu which has now thank goodness cleared up and both are healthy .

My concern for Tinker is that she is very very active and loves to play fight with her brother who has be neutered :) , but i am concerned that she will damage the wound by play fighting , should i keep them separated when she comes home for a week or so or will she be okay.

I have been told by the vet that the incision will be in her tummy and not on her side as with my previous cats

thanks if anyone has any experience with this i would be most grateful :)

You can ask them to begin her kitten vaccines when she's there for the spay.  All of my females have had the surgery on the tummy and did just fine.  You will need to watch the incision for infection, but most kitties don't have a problem.  Trying to limit activity is somewhat futile!  LOL  Kitties are actually pretty good as self-limiting.  Just keep an eye on her and she'll be fine.

Thank you,

I hate the thought of putting her through this but it is better for her i know .

Talk to the vet about aftercare.

I think they probably will recommend to keep them separate   for at least a couple of days .   They also may tell you not to let her jump -- -but good luck with that ,  because it is almost impossible to keep  a kitten from jumping!   and it seldom seems to cause a problem  .

But I would keep her and the boy   apart for a few days because of the rough play.   I doubt you would need to separate them for a week though.

I know it is a worry and you hate them going through surgery,  but really it's easier on her now than later.   and the alternative of never doing it at all has a lot more health risks

Hope all goes well!

Thanks, just got back from the vet and she is 6 months this Friday but the vet wants to wait another week as she only had an antibiotic injection last Monday and it has to be out of her system first, but when i book it next week there is still a 3 weeks waiting list , but i want to get it done and if i have to have her sleep on our bed until she is healed i will do that, i remember when Ebony was spayed she went into a fit with the lampshade collar on and so i took it off her and watched all night while the wound healed we also took her out in the car with us in her carrier so we could keep an eye on her, we love cats so much we must sound so silly lol

Yeah, we mommies worry a lot!
Ritz is my first cat ever, and I was a nervous wreck. To prevent her from jumping up on the bed, I slept on the floor with her the first night. She could easily jump up on the sofa the next day, so we both slept in the bed the next nights.
I would keep the cats separated; for one reason, Tinker will smell different and her brother may react negatively/aggressively towards her because of this.

Tinker is being spayed 24th October , they want her to gain some more weight first, the vet is happy to spay her before her vaccinations , won't vaccinate at same time as spaying as she doesn't want to put her through too much at once.

She will be home the same day so the sooner this procedure is done the better , we can all move on then once the vaccinations are done . We have decided to go for the £99 each which includes all the vaccinations for kittens and then it includes a yearly booster for life free .

Can i ask for prayers for Tinker on the day of the procedure please , this is my little dainty furbaby :)

thank you all xx

Glad you have a spay date.  Sounds like you've got a wonderful vet, too!!  You can definitely ask for prayers a few days before her surgery.  I think it's more stressful for the humans than the kitties!

Yes a very good vet she is so lovely and the whole atmosphere is relaxed and there is such a friendly crew of staff. I know one of the receptionists personally and he keeps me updated on things, he also said he will check on Tinker throughout the day as he is also a nurses assistant .

They have Feliway plugged in to relax the cats so everything possible is done to make sure the experience is relaxed for the kitties, i am worried but i know it is for the best for her.

I will ask for prayers a few days before and it will be very appreciated :)

Tinker got spayed yesterday the surgery went well and I brought her home the same day, she is still very quiet and inactive, she slept on our bed last night and was a very good girl slept all night no problem.

I tried to get her to eat something this morning but she won't eat a thing, yesterday she wouldn't either but I did give her water from a feeding syringe and I will do the same thing during the day .

I can't remember if my other two cats Ebony and Lollipop were off their food after being spayed so this is worrying me with Tinker she can't afford to lose any weight she is so small .

Praying she eats today to help here heal well x
