Have your cats helped heal you in any way? Whether it be therapeutically, physically, mentally or emotionally? My cats definitely healed me emotionally and somewhat physically.

When we got Nova my husband and I were struggling through infertility issues and I was so depressed and distraught that most of the time I just sat on the bed and either cried or stared into space. My husband would try to coax me out or try to get me to do something with him but I just couldn't get past the diagnosis.

One day he finally did manage to get me out of the house one June day and thank goodness he did. He managed to get me to go on a walk with him and on our way back home we heard a teeny little "Mew, Mew" and we started searching through the weeds and came across two little kittens, barely 5 weeks old. One little one was already dead, so we buried it there. The other, our sweet Nova, was so weak and covered in fleas and ticks that he could barely make the Mewing noises, let alone move. We immediately rushed him to the vet where he stayed for a little over a week receiving treatment after treatment for his blood loss, malnourishment/dehydration, worms/flea problem and infection. We took him home at six weeks old and it was like there was light in the house again. He was relatively calm, but affectionate the first few weeks of his recovery, but soon that wild kitten energy showed through and it was constant laughter. Then the following October, after many treatments, we were preparing to welcome a new member of the family, our son.

I was 8 months pregnant with my son when I received Leo, Nova had been staying with my grandparents temporarily, and I was suffering from complications that ultimately led to my sons pre-mature birth. My blood pressure would sky rocket into very dangerous territory but the day I brought Leo home things changed. My blood pressure, while still high, no longer reached life threatening levels, I was happy and distracted from the scare of complications and from my husbands absence due to work, I was more relaxed and laid back while having Leo in the house. Had it not been for Leo and his effect on me I probably would have delivered my son much earlier than I did due to the complications.

Do you have any stories about your cats?
