Yesterday, I was riding home on the train from NYC.. the train was packed, people were standing as there was no seats (including me and my mom, we were crammed between the other standing people). An elderly lady was trying to find a seat, but, a young man, who looked like the type of guy no one wants to mess with, gets up and gives her his seat. I made a point to thank him for his generosity. It's so rare to find anyone give up their seats in the city, not for elderlies or pregnant women.

Today, I was at target.. only had one item in my hand, 3 registers open with at least 4 people on each line with shopping carts full of items. As I was debating on which line would go quickest.. an older woman allowed me to go in front of her. No one lets another in front anymore either.

These moments like this restores some of my faith in humanity. I hope to see more people doing nice things more often!

What feel-good rare moments have you witness lately?

You're right. Manners and good will towards others isn't very common anymore. This morning I was in Winn Dixie and a lady was in one of the carts that you can ride in. She wanted to look at a bag of onions that was closer to the top but couldn't reach them. A young lady shopping next to her offered to get them for her to look at, and she was thankful. I smiled. After all, I look at bags of produce carefully too.

When we lived in Cambridge I took the "T" into Boston a few times, including once when I was 8 months pregnant. The train was full on the way home and I had to stand the whole trip because nobody offered me a seat. My pregnant belly and I were right in front of 4 seated teenage boys who consciously ignored me. My feet hurt, too, and my back and I almost said something but decided to just glare at them and tough it out, lol.

There were little kindnesses from people during my pregnancy and that incident really surprised me. I made sure after I had the kid that she knows to offer her seat to anyone who has something physical going on: elderly, pregnant, on crutches, has a cast, has a cane, or any major bandages that you can see. I told her you know that person is not feeling well so give them a break. She does it, too.
