Where do I start!... I lost my baby girl Yorkshire terrier- (Faith) to a long battle with Cancer; age 15. She was my life... She passed away on Sunday the 15/9/13. She was violently sick that night. We were going to make the decision to put her to sleep the following day. I'm glad she had died naturally at home in our arms. This was still agonising.

On my way home from work on the 18/9/13 I had accidentally ran over a beautiful gods creature- a cat. I was driving at 25 to 30 mph and then suddenly the cat ran straight in front of my car. I didn't have time to think to brake or swerve as I take that route every day home , knowing there is usually oncoming traffic in front and traffic behind.

I stopped a few yards down.. Still panicking and switched my hazard lights on. I ran straight towards where the cat was, which was under a car. The cat meowed. I was hysterical. I saw a couple across the road and screamed.. Please call a vet or do you know where a vet is.. They said yes and said they will go and let them know after me telling them that I accidentally ran over the beautiful cat.

A lady stopped and said she had seen the whole incident unfold and it wasn't my fault and that there was nothing I could of done! I was still hysterical and went across the road, nearly getting knocked over in the process.. I knocked on the door and asked her if she had a cat and that I accidentally ran over one. She said no, but I know the man across the road has one, but I think he is at work. I ran back over and she followed concerned too. We all knocked on doors... The lady that saw the incident, the lady across the road and me, but no luck. The cat then ran in the bushes and then to one of the houses and stayed there. Still panicking I flagged down a passing police car. They stopped and I told them. They said I didn't need to report this as it is cat, but it is still a life. They did help by knocking on doors too. They said there was nothing you could of done and that these things do happen and at least you had. Stopped! The vets came, which seemed forever with a basket and took the cat to the vets. I asked them of I could ring back to check on the cat and they said yes. The police offered to drive me home, but I said I should be ok. Still shaking I tried to console myself and drove home. I then had to take my own Yorkshire terrier- Faith to the vets to be taken for cremation. I then rang back the vets only to be told that the cat had passed away. The vet lady said her father had done the same and was devastated. I left my name and number in case the owner turned up.

I. Went back later to see the lady that lived across the road. She invited me in and asked if I was okay! No I replied. She had said the woman who witnessed the incident said a white van had hit the cat first, but I didn't see that... Why?.... Why didn't I do an emergency stop? Why didn't I swerve to avoid? Could I have saved the poor cat!? I'm to traumatised by all this and I don't know where to turn.... Please help!![emoji]128557[/emoji]

I'm so very sorry to hear about Faith. I've had so many pets in my life, but losing one always hurts.

There was nothing you could've done to avoid hitting the cat. Please don't keep beating yourself about this. Animals are unpredictable in their behavior, especially around traffic. They panic, and do dangerous things. There was no way you could avoid the accident.  You obviously love animals very much, and of course you'd never do anything to harm them.

Take care of yourself, and release the guilt. It wasn't your fault.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your sweet dog and I'm sorry for what you are going through with the kitty. You just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time as was the kitty. This happens so often and most people don't even stop either out of guilt or because they just don't care. I even saw someone swerve to hit a cat and called them into the police.

Let me just say that you are an amazing person for stopping and trying to help and looking for the owner. I know it feels bad now but it will get better, there was nothing you could do to change it. People take a sad risk when they let their pets roam free and it happened to my Toby a long time ago. Our neighbor brought him to our door and I didn't blame anyone for hitting him. It just happens and the only way to prevent it is to keep them inside or on a leash.

Even when we are paying close attention to the road and our surroundings these things happen. Try to find solace in this, you are a good person and you proved that by your actions. If you are having a lot of trouble grieving you might consider a therapist so you can have help getting through this. I've been to them before and they are very helpful and understanding.

I hope you begin to feel better soon, it's always hard when these things happen but it does get better with time.

Thank you both for your understanding and kindness.

I hope in time that I do come to terms with this, but your words have been a comfort blanket that has shed me from the guilt and shame and helped with this agonising pain of loss of not only a beautiful cat, but also my beautiful and loving friend of 15 years - Faith.

I'm going to hold a celebration of her life, like we did for her sister -Hope at her favourite park... There will be balloons pink, purple and blue to set off into the sky, bubbles and songs in remberence and to say farewell. I will also set one of for the beautiful cat also... Thank you and I'm sure that I will enjoy this site as I also have a cat called -Storm ... He is a male and neutrated and we keep him in. He loved Faith too and I'm sure will be a loss to him also. Thank you once again for your kindness and understanding..[emoji]128546[/emoji][emoji]128536[/emoji][emoji]128536[/emoji][emoji]128536[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji]

My condolences on your loss of Faith and your horrible experience with that poor cat. They're both at peace now, and I hope you find some of your own.

Thinking of you in your time of sorrow. I'm sorry for the very sad loss of your little dog, Faith. She was loved until the end as you were with her. She is in a place of peace and no pain. I hope all your wonderful memories of your time together eases the pain in your heart. Also, I hope you feel less burdened by the incident with the kitty. This was not your fault, please know...

Sending you positive thoughts for healing...

I. too. had a Yorkie for 15 years. He was hit by a car who never stopped. Then last year my beloved Chrissy was hit when she followed me, once again by someone who never stopped. The agony of their senseless deaths, and the guilt will be with me forever. You showed compassion and did all you could for that poor cat, at least he wasn't allowed to suffer for a long time. My heart goes out to you, you cared enough to try to help, and did a lot more then most people would have. Thank you so much for trying. Your loss of little Faith was a terrible blow, and now to have this is a terrible burden to your kind heart. Bless you for caring, RIP little Faith.

To Di and Bob... Thank you so much sweetheart!! That is terrible that both didn't stop, I couldn't live with myself if I did that.

Please do not feel guilty, it wasn't your fault, do not feel guilty please!! The driver that didn't stop and help should feel guilty, but you are like me and kind and compassionate to all gods things. Your yorkies were so blessed to have a beautiful owner such as yourself and will some day they will wipe those tears of guilt from your face and heart when you all meet across rainbow bridge[emoji]127752[/emoji][emoji]127801[/emoji][emoji]127801[/emoji][emoji]127801[/emoji][emoji]127794[/emoji][emoji]128144[/emoji][emoji]127804[/emoji][emoji]128519[/emoji][emoji]128149[/emoji]
