Hello! My name is Alexis and I recently adopted a 4-week old kitten. Her name is Mopsy and she's a fire cracker! When I got her she was underweight but I'm working on putting that weight back on. I had gotten her from a friend who found out she was allergic who got it from a random guy. She's completely weaned but it makes me sad that she didn't get to stay with her mom longer. Anyways, this is my cute little munchkin!

Awww how cute, loving her nose! My little Leo was given to me at 5 weeks because he and his sister were dropped off on the road in front of a friends house. They're so small and cute and cuddly at that age!!!

She's definitely a cuddler when she isn't trying to gnaw off my hands!

  Welcome.

She's so sweet, and so little!  Yes, her nose is super cute.

Mopsy is still very young to be away from her mum and any siblings she had, especially to have had as many homes as you say. Thank you for taking her in. I hope this is now her furever home and that she now has a chance to bond with someone, learns to trust, and develops in to a healthy and happy cat.

Remember how little she is and that you will have to play the role of her mum for a while - making sure her little body is warm, and stuff like learning to do cat things such as using litter, and what kind of play is OK / hurt others - like biting and claws! You can't start too young on the OK play thing. Hands and feat are for soft cuddles and toys are for play.

If she bites push in quickly towards her bite slightly, then stay very still, and blow on her nose if she doesn't stop. By that stage she should have stopped the bite.  Hold still until she does and repeat the blow if you need to.   If she starts up again go through the same process again.  You can add in a 'no' or an 'ouch' if you need to but see if the basic non verbal stuff works first. She's just little and you can get in there before bad habits have been learned.

I look forward to seeing more of your posts and hearing about Mopsy's antics.

Oh my gosh thank you! I have been wondering how I could teach her not to bite and claw at my hands. :D thanks for the tips and if there are anymore tips you have for a new kitten owner that'd be awesome

You're very welcome.

I've never taken in a very young kitten but my current boy was definitely in need of some bite training when I brought him home.

Just remembered - from another thread I post in about a very young kitten, someone suggested that maybe the kitten was chewing at a finger as it was like suckling its mom, so if you think this might be part of Mopsy's biting, the suggestion that was given was to introduce a soft comforter - toy / luvvie that your kitten can chew on and cuddle as a security thing. It has to be something safe for her to chew on though, and small enough she can carry it about with her.

There are loads of really experienced people who use this site and many of them foster or care for very young kittens and rescue kittens so if you have any questions it is probably best to post them in the kitten care, behaviour, nutrition r health threads - or which ever looks most appropriate for the information you are looking for.

You can start a new thread in most of the forums as soon as you join and there's almost certainly someone out here that will be all too keen to offer ideas or experience.  If you are looking for help and advice it is usually be best to give a clear indication of the issue in the thread title so people who have the right knowledge or interest notice it, then you'll get more replies.

If Mopsy is your avatar kitty she's a gorgeous little kitten and you will have to get busy showing her off in all the fun photo threads on this site. She will have plenty of admirers. Oh, and get her cat page up too, so you can tell her story to everyone.  I love reading all the new Cat Pages that have been posted.
