Losing weight, projectile vomiting, and a host of other problems

Hi, I am new here, and short of taking my cat to the vet (I am working with them and several help organizations), I need some advice, please.  My Carley is about 8 years old, and has recently started exhibiting very fearful behaviors.  She has been losing weight, throwing up her food, has no fur left on her belly, urinates in the water bowl thought I clean the litter box, and defecates outside of the litter box most of the time.  Typically her stool is loose or runny.

She is not exhibiting any other behaviors, does still eat, does still drink, and does still groom herself.  Tonight, she projectile vomited 3 different times, and has just been sleeping the evening away.  She is very lethargic and only gets up long enough to eat, drink, and expel urine or feces.

I know that she is incredibly sick, and like I said, am in contact with assistance programs, but need advice on how to make her comfortable or help her in the meantime.

Anything you can do to help or advise would be greatly appreciated.  I don't want to lose my girl (she's the gray/white kitty in the picture, taken when she was much healthier).

Thanks!

Without tests, it is impossible to tell what's wrong or how to help her. Projectile vomiting of food could be a sign of an obstruction in the bowels. She could also have an infection. She sounds very very sick and really requires a vet as soon as possible. There's nothing you can do at home except try to keep her comfortable. Many vibes that she can be seen quickly and that it is something easily treatable.

After much research here and other sites, I have been giving Carley a very small amount of Metronizadole (sp?) combined with kitten milk. She drinks it down, and I figured the kitten milk would help with extra vitamins as well. I know it's not the best idea to home-medicate, but figure it's a stop-gap measure until funding comes in for the vet visit.

She has been more active, and has not thrown up or had diarrhea since I started this. Overall, it appears to be helping. As stated, I will do this for about 10 days, until I can at least get her to the vet to see what is wrong.

Well, I'm glad this is helping her.  How did you happen to have this drug just laying around, since it is be prescription?  Did you find a Vet to prescribe it to you without having to actually see her, or did you have some left over from  a previous time.  I did notice you said you are using just a little bit, which is good, since it does have the potential to cause harm if not used correctly (overdosing inadvertently)

I'm surprised she is drinking your concoction, since the metronidazole is supposedly very bitter
Is she eating anything along with the KMR?

for your girl

I was going to suggest Slippery Elm Bark as it soothes the entire gastrointestinal tract.  We have another TCS member who has been using this to help one of her kitties and it's working.  Here's the thread:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/262185/slippery-elm-bark-is-helping-mazy-so-much   You can get the SEB powder at most health food stores or online.  If you can only find it in gelcaps, be sure it's pure SEB and break open the capsules.

@ mrsgreenjeans - yes, it is some that I had here from a previous vet visit.  She did drink it the first night until she got the bitter taste.  I have been giving it to her via syringe in her cheek/the side of her mouth since then.  Thanks for the good vibes!

@ stephanietx - I've not read the post yet, but will certainly do so tomorrow morning (it's bedtime now), thank you!

I am so thankful that this seems to be working - as a stop-gap measure for now.
