The kittens I've been helping raise are 9 weeks old and will be ready to go to new homes soon. I'm a little stressed as three of them were picked out by people and all of them backed down. So now I have all 6 with no prospective homes for them to go to.

I took in the mom as a pregnant stray and have gotten the kittens this far but I can't keep them forever as we have so many cats already. We are going to keep Hina their mom. I know the humane society here will find them homes fast but I don't want to take them there.

They saw our vet today and got some vaccines and dewormed, the mom cat went yesterday and was tested for fiv and felv and showed negative for both. Everyone is healthy and well adjusted as my husband and I have been very hands on with them. They are eating dry and wet food and are all completely litter trained.

There are 5 girls and 1 boy and they are all cuddlers.

I took this today or yesterday

Tabby female

Black nose tuxedo female

One of the black females they each have a small white spot on the chest, there are two black females

This is the only male in the bunch and he is a snuggler and also likes climbing into pantlegs

White nose tuxedo female, she's a spitting image of her mama isn't she?

Those are the best photos I have of everyone at the moment. Please send me a private message or just in this thread if you have any questions. I really want them to all find good forever homes.

Well bless you for taking them all in and raising them up proper

The are beautiful!  I'm sure hoping you are able to find homes for them, and it is nice that you can fall back on the humane society to help you out if you cannot find homes yourself.  Have you checked all the no-kill shelters in your area?  Of course you are in love with all of them and probably want to screen all the prospective new parents yourselves, but sometimes it's just not possible, so you may have to consider giving them up to a shelter (as long as it's a no-kill one) or keep them

I think some people pet ads on Petfinders, and, of couse, I'm guessing you have already asked everyone you know.  If you haven't, then you need to get busy.  You might even ask your Vet if they could post a sign for you, and all the local pet supply stores in the area

Here is a thread that discusses ways to write ads on Craigs List and Petfinders that might be helpful, and also an application form to weed out "undesirables", for what it's worth:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/262227/...-nwo-area-desperately-need-homes#post_3387594

Good luck to you with these beautiful little ones

I'm heartbroken but we took the little ones to the humane society here. I told the woman we were having trouble homing them and she said that people here adopt from the humane society in high numbers. Last year and the year before they adopted out 95% - 98% of adoptable cats and dogs plus they have no holding time limit.

It's heartbreaking that people like me raise them up and then can't find homes unless the still go to the humane society? I was crying so hard the whole time we were filling out the paper work. We donated extra money on top of the fee they charge.

The humane society of Utah is the best shelter I've ever been to so if I had to pick one to take the babies to this is the one I'd choose. I'm still sad that this is how it went but what else could I do? Hold onto them until they were to old to find homes, I couldn't keep them at my parent's house forever. I'm just so angry that this happens, why do people not fix their animals? I feel like the bad guy for this and it's just out of my control. I couldn't leave Hina outside starving and to have kittens and just let them have babies one day as well. At least they will all get fixed and their prospective families will be screened. Someone suggested I take them to walmart, that would be worse than the shelter to me. I've seen the people that sometimes on a whim take a walmart puppy or kitten home. Many of them have no place for a pet or the means to care for them.

I'm just trying to work it out in my head. It's done and there is nothing I can do to change it. Hina the mommy cat will stay with us. I would never take her to the shelter knowing that adult cats are not nearly as adopted as babies animals. We are getting her vaccinated Friday and then she will be fixed and live indoors.

I hope anyone who reads this doesn't hate me for what I did, it was hard and I knew it might happen. I love them so much and assisted with their birth, weighed them and loved them each day and I'm crying as I write this. I hope they find homes and find happiness. It was a long road but I don't regret taking Hina in and helping raise these 6 sweet, innocent babies. They grew into wonderful little things that love to cuddle and slept on us after they arte their soft food. I will never forget them.

Oh hun.......... :hugs: :hugs: :bawling: You have me in tears because one: you are such a loving person to have raised these babies the way you did and two: because I know the agonizing pain you must have endured taking those babies to the Humane Society. You and your husband should be commended at the excellent care you gave those babies. HOW in the world could we hate you !!! Please know that you DID THE RIGHT THING!!!! Keeping those kittens with you and trying to find homes on your own is very difficult to say the least. At the Humane Society they will have a much higher chance at a fast adoption plus they will be spay/neutered BEFORE they go. I always much prefer people taking the kittens that they lovingly raised to a Humane Society rather than trying to give them away on their own. I am so sorry how upsetting this was for you and I would have been crying too. But, you are giving those kittens a very, very good chance at finding loving homes fast. If you had kept them trying to find homes on your own without success then they would only get older and bigger. The timing was right to bring them to the society. Major hugs that you did the right thing. :hugs: :grphug: :hugs:

AND - what a saint you are, keeping the momma cat, Hina. :heart2: You have a good heart. She is beautiful. Don't worry about her kittens. :hugs: They will find good homes and who knows, maybe a together!!! I tend to adopt siblings. ;) :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for good/loving forever homes. :heart3:

How could anybody hate you for taking in a pregnant cat and taking care of her and her kittens? It's a shame you couldn't find them homes yourself, but you tried, and they have a very good chance of being adopted at the shelter.

Yes, really, what else could you do, except make it harder on yourself by falling even deeper in love with them with each passing day.  Chances are very good they will all find wonderful homes, and as Lauren says, maybe they will be adopted in sets.  I know once we were looking for TWO kittens, but there were 3 left in a litter.  We just couldn't leave one behind, so we ended up adopting all THREE.  We had them for their entire lives

Don't beat yourself up.  When you think about it,you actually saved these babies

Thank you all so much for your kind and reassuring words. I cried reading each comment. The lady at the humane society was rather indifferent and probably thought I was just another cat owner who doesn't fix her cats. I tried to explain about how I couldn't give up the mother since she might not get adopted and all the lady said was did you take her to your local shelter to see if she had a chip? I just looked at her, then I said no I took her to my vet and got her checked. I was just a mess. The kittens weren't freaked out at all, probably due to the fact that our house was sometimes loud.

Hina adjusted well, she meowed a few times yesterday but today she's just relaxing. I'm keeping an eye on her nipples and surrounding area for signs of infection. Her breasts are swollen and hard but not hot to the touch or red. The kittens were barely allowed to nurse, only when she was distracted for a minute. She goes for her vaccinations this Friday so unless she starts acting funny or looks red and feels hot I'll just keep an eye.

Again thank you everyone, this was hard on me but I'd do it again in a heartbeat and maybe I'll try fostering when we have our own place.
