I would agree that it sounds like a Mantis Shrimp, they can be fairly vicious, especially as they get bigger. Definitly better for a species only tank.
my Feather Duster got too close to my frogspawn, and I noticed it wasn't coming out much. So I decided to move the duster.. upon moving it, it came out of the tube and wiggled a bit away.
took a photo.. not sure how long it'll take for it to grow its tube again. Hopefully fast because one of my large snail is refusing to stay away from it
Since my Ricordia mushrooms refused to stay on the rock in the deli cup (gluing won't help, they slough it off), I decided to tie them down until they grip. But at least I got a pic! 1 green, 1 blue/purple and there's an orange/green one in the back. and Shrimp photobomb!
This is a very inspiring thread, and it's got me thinking about going salty! I have two small planted tanks (10gl & 5gl) which I'm hoping to tear down once I establish my 55gl planted. Maybe I could do a small salt tank with the 10gl? It's in a spot that gets a fair amount of sunshine though which is causing algae problems, but I was wondering if that's such an issue with the salt water tank?
You can get algae in saltwater as well.. but with plenty of cleanup crews (snails, crabs and so forth), it won't be as bad. I barely have to scrape my glass and rocks of algae.
if you do decide to turn your 10 gal into a mini-reef, do start your own thread so I can follow!
I finally got the stand I wanted for the tank. It was too expensive, but after holiday sales made it do-able. I hope it comes in this weekend so I can do my water-change at the same time as moving it. That tank probably weighs close to 100 lbs now!
