Good morning.....and Happy TGIF

Today is my darling RB
Banshee's birthday. She would have been 18 years old today (she died four years ago and part of my heart died with her). Banshee was the feline love of my life, although Rick used to say that she was simply the love of my life, feline and otherwise. I cherished that girl and she knew it. I always took off work for her birthday and we spent the day together. Sometimes we'd just lie on the couch together, maybe watch a bit of television or I'd read a book. But I was always with her that day. It was our special day together. No matter where she was, I made sure I was right there, too. (When I interviewed for the job I have now, my boss asked me if I had any questions or anything he needed to know. I said that every year on September 20, I would need the day off. He asked me why and I told him that it was Banshee's birthday....nothing interfered with that. Nothing. He laughed and hired me anyway. That year, the day before September 20, he came into my office to ask me if I was serious about having that day off work. I was. And I always took that day off work. It was a given.)

When Banshee died, I decided that I wasn't going to do it anymore. And although I love Mollipop dearly, I don't take off work for her birthday.

Do you do anything special for your cats' birthdays or Gotcha Days or anything like that? A special cat food? A new toy? An extra kiss and hug?

Our kids always get a can of Fancy Feast for their birthdays. And I pick the cat up and sing Happy Birthday to whoever it is. We know BooBoo and Ms. Pepe's birthdays  because they were born in our bedroom. We know Mollipop's birthday because I got her at our animal hospital and they had it on record; I got Molli when she was about seven weeks old. Not sure about the rest of the gang, so we celebrate Gotcha Days, the day that we Gotcha.

What about you?? What do you do?

Good morning Pam,  yes I remember how much you loved Banshee and I'm sorry I wasn't around when you lost her.  You know I felt the same way about my Beloved Misty.  It's been 5 years since she left me and I still think of her quite often and cry often too.  Although I love Autumn, it's just not the strong, deep love I felt for Misty.

I hope you get through this day without too much sadness.  Smile like I do when I think of Misty even if I'm crying at the same time.  They gave us so  much love, so much that we will never forget them and that little piece of our heart will always be with them.

On Autumn's special day she gets a few extra treats and me singing Happy Birthday and of course she gets extra lovin'.

I don't know Camelot's specific birthday (So I guesstimate) just his age, and I didn't really pay attention to the date of the day that we got him...so don't know about that either. I was too distracted by the new and cute member of the family to think about the date! :lol3:

But I know his daughter's very well - since she was born in our house! What also helped to remember her date, is that she was born on the night before I had a job interview, which was in the morning.

I usually just cook them a special something, give them extra of their favourite treats, play with them and all. Enjoy and appreciate their company amongst the snuggling :)

At the moment, Cam is 5 and Morgana is 3.

I have the gotcha dates written on the calendar but other than a few extra hugs, we don't do anything special. Heck I forgot my nephew's birthday yesterday and only remembered after 10:00 pm which is far too late to call him where he lives.
(I've been having a little trouble keeping up with life lately.)

I have a "guestimate" we have as Mooch and Noodle's birthday; based off their gotcha day.  I used to give them canned food and I'd stick a few cat treats in it and top it with some fish flakes.  But we haven't done that in a few years.  They can't seem to keep canned food down and it's just doesn't match my light gray carpets. I'm sure they don't care for losing their dinner either.

My daughter and mother and I were out shopping one time (years ago) and my mother pointed out a sofa or something and my daughter said, "Oh no Grandma, that sofa is kitty-puke color!"

My mother ignored the comment but I laughed for a long time... maybe we all need kitty--puke color carpets.

Today is close to Louie's gotcha day. I gave him a piece of chicken because that is what I had for dinner. He played with it so long that another cat swiped it. On the other hand, he isn't crazy about dark meat so probably was hoping it would change if he toyed with it long enough. It's close to the birthdays of both Da Magpie and Blue. neither of whom are that crazy about human food although Da Magpie likes cold cuts and Blue likes popcorn. plain chips and cheese curls.

We knew Jamie's exact birthday, April 28th, because his mother was being fostered by a student's mother who belongs to the same rescue I do. He always got something special like calamari, shrimp or lobster that day.

Mogli's birthday might be June 1st (shelters sometimes just record the birth month and year, and then put the first of the month down when the kitten is microchipped and the number registered), so we've decided to make it his official birthday. This year he got more toys, since I'm wary of giving him anything that isn't part of his special diet.

My two are born in the same month. So every year, i throw a party for them with my nieces.. where they'd come, sleep over and have a "make your own sundae" cake. I'd decorate with balloons and host party games. They have a lot of fun and really enjoy the goody bags they get at the end! I often get my family to go for dinner on this day too (my mom, sister and the nieces).

They'd often bring a wrapped present for the cats too!

hey, I don't have my own kids and its my excuse to get the family to come in my direction for a change!

We roasted a whole pheasant for Poppy this year. Previous years she got copious amounts of chicken. Sometimes she'll get a new toy or blanket. For her upcoming birthday I'm thinking I'll go to a slaughterhouse and get a freshly slaughtered bird for her.

That's a tough one for me too. I'm not sure of the exact date sense Angel started hanging out on my porch sometime in the spring of 2009.   I finally let him in, & he stayed, & continued to come back (he was indoor & outdoor back then before I knew better).  I waited a year to make sure he was mine, if no one claimed him, or said anything. (I didn't know at the time but he came from a neighbors & was mostly outside. Her daughter had a baby, & I think it prob. got too noisy & stressful over there, so he adopted me!)  They knew I had taken him in & nothing was ever said, so after being w/ me a yr. I took him to the vet's & made it official!

That was July 25th 2010, so that's the date I use.

I will usually buy him a new toy, or give a special treat.

I already smother him in hugs & kisses every day, so I'm sure he already thinks I'm a "smother mother." LOL!  I tell him it's his fault for being so yummy!!

Oh, & later, the neighbors said they are glad he found a good home!
