New to the site so just checking that I know what I'm doing! My baby boy blocked 3 times in the past 2 yrs. He went missing a while back and was found collapsed in someone's garden. Luckily they called the rspca who took him to a local vets and treated him. He was close to death and wen he came home a wk later we were unsure if his blade would ever work properly again as it had been stretched a long time. Luckily he started to wee again normally in the litter tray after days of leaking and hours in the dirt tray. We were discharged from the vets last wk afta be in told that his bladder felt normal and discussed the possibility of the pu op in the future if he re blocked. Well a wk late and he re blocked so we're,now bak in the vets and hoping to go for surgery next week depending on blood results. We had to make the decision today whether to send him off to sleep or if I could find the £4000 it would cost for the op, which I don't have. Those were the two options I was given by the vet. He's my baby and such as awesome kitty cat and although I have 7 (all strays) I couldn't bare to give up on him. Now we r trying to extend overdraft s and credit card limits for payment and I'm hoping that the op will go ahead and he will make a full recovery.

I hope you can swing it financially and the surgery goes well.  It is major surgery with a long recovery period but there are times when it is the only solution.  There are many different factors that cause this issue and some kitties unfortunately need the surgery.

Anyone know of anywhere that offer financial support or short term loans for these kind of ops? X

Have you investigated the PDSA (http://www.pdsa.org.uk). They have branches all over the country and offer high quality, low cost veterinary care. I'm assuming you're in the uk (as you're talking in terms of £s not $s.

Yes am in the UK. Don't get me wrong. It's not about the money. It's just if u don't have it and u need it in a weeks time it's a tricky situation to be in. It's a lot of money to get hold of in a short space of time. Franks doin well today and bloods r bak to normal now so pushing for surgery on monday

I know how crazy vet bills can be, and how hard it is to come up with high costs upfront. It's always worth talking to the practice administrator/manager and seeing if they'll accept payments. I know my vets will sometimes.

It's good to hear that Frank's doing better today. He's so lucky to have you to care for him. I hope he makes a full recovery soon

Hi Mr. Frank,

My furbaby had the surgery just over a year ago now and I vividly remember it being one of the most stressful times of my life. I want to let you know that I'll be here if you need to talk or need some reassurance with the procedure/recovery! I remember being on this site during that time and I got some helpful advice and reassurance from some people on here and it really helped - I know this forum isn't really too active right now and I just happen to notice an update on the forum so I'd like to pay it forward and reach out to you so you have someone if you need!

I'll start by saying my kitty is 100% recovered and doing better than ever! Since his surgery he has been so much more active, his eyes are brighter and I can see he has a better quality of life. He used to be overweight as he wasn't as active before his surgery (i attribute it to the pain UTIs and crystals cause) but since his surgery he has lost 7 pounds!! 7 pounds! He is now at a healthy weight of 14 pounds from 22!  He hasn't had one bladder or blockage problem since his full recovery from the surgery! Its stressful to go through at the time but such a relief in the long run, and totally worth it seeing your kitty at his best!

I will be thinking of you and Frank over these next few weeks and will be checking this forum for you - so if you have any questions about my experience I will most certainly share with you and answer any questions/give advice were I can! I am by no means a vet however I can offer you my personal experience and empathy toward the situation!

Feel free to keep this forum up for others to see or private message me if you prefer!

Good luck! Sending positive thoughts to you and Frank <3

Nikki

EDIT ** I feel silly!! I didn't see all the other responses until I actually posted mine! For some reason Franks first post only came up and I thought this forum was inactive LOL I am glad to see people are still on here helping people through the stressors on feline PU surgery!

Lol no worries and thanx for the support. It feels like I'm the one having the procedure! Well he's been a little pickle the past few days. Managed to pull his catheter out twice! Even with coller on. Other than that he's happy. Purring and loving me when I visit! Everyone loves him at the vets as he's such a character! Will hear in the morning if he will be goin for surgery so will let u all know how it goes x

Hi Mr. Frank,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Mr. Frank.  My Loki blocked on 8/14/2014 and it's hard to believe we made it through all the unknowns.  He's totally thriving now and hasn't had one problem since his surgery in late October.  You too will make it through this.  Thanks to all of the support and sharing on this website!  I believe it's the only thing that gave me peace of mind to hear similar stories of struggles and survival.  Mr. Frank is so lucky to have such a loving owner.  Rest up...it's not a short recovery.  My best advice, watch him like a hawk when you get him home.  Don't worry so much if he doesn't poop for a few days after getting home.  Loki didn't poop for seven days; my vet said he will poop when it's time.  And he did.  Please keep us posted !

Lol and thanx once again. Dropped frank off at midday and they rung lata to say that hey would b operating g first thing today (4th) 9th. He had an ultrasound on his bladder and so far all normal. They will use a needle to take a urine say in the morning and also inject some dye into his bladder to check for any abnormalities before he surgery. I am working a night shift atm but will wait in the morning for he call to tell me Mr frank is ok and we'll. It's gonna be tricky coz as a nurse I work 12 hrs shifts so watching him will be tricky. Luckily I have two teenage sons so he will be watched like a hawk rest assured x

Hi guys. So Mr frank had surgery Tuesday morning and I took him home tonight. He has been weeing and eating and drinking so all good for now. He seemed very stressed wen we got home but once I got him settled in my bedroom wiv litter tray and wet food plus half a diazpam lol, he flaked out on my bed. I moved a TV in my room and we're watching films together! He seems to want to be with me so I'll b wiv him as much as I can. He has eaten half a tin of wet food with water and I was told by the vet not to use litter in his tray just shredded paper. He has to keep his collar on for two wks and have stitches removed then. I read some entries last wk and noted that people were asking about pictures so I will try to upload some. Be warned though he looks like a plucked chicken and it's very raw so if ur squeamish look away.

Luckily Mr frank is extremely daft and spends most of his life on his back with legs in the air!!

It looks sore, but Mr Frank seems comfortable and relaxed enough with it all! I'm glad he came through the op well. :cross: that he heals well and quickly :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
