My cat was given clindacure for a dental infection. He is having surgery Tuesday to have some teeth pulled. He is 16 years old.  today is the 2nd day on this medication and he seems to be losing his muscle control and had been hiding under the house all day. I got him inside but he was stumbling and now just laying in bed. I brought him some food and water to bed,  which he readily ate but only by lifting his

head and didn't get up at all. Calling vet tomorrow.  l Don't know if I want him to go through surgery now with his age and possible adverse reaction to this medication. Any advice or input would be appreciated

as I am beside myself with worry.

I don't blame you for worrying.  What you describe is not a common side effect of this antibiotic, but sometimes different cats react differently.  Since he was under the house, could he have gotten into something else, some sort of poison?  Or even gotten bit by a something poisonous (spider?)

A call to your Vet is definitely in order, first thing in the morning, or if he gets worse, possibly a visit to an animal ER tonight.

Boy, it's tough at that age, because if he has an infection in his mouth and needs teeth pulled, then he needs it done.  What are the choices...you don't want him living in pain
.  As long as they do blood tests ahead of time to make sure all systems are go, and they monitor him while he's under, things should be ok.  Older cats than him have had dental work and done ok, but it's still a worry, I know.

His age is not a deterrent, but he definitely needs a different antibiotic.

One of mine could only tolerate injectable antibiotics so I would like to encourage you to talk to your vet about the issue of antibiotics.  And, please, under no circumstances cancel the dental.  It is vitally important for him to get that done.
