Elk velvet antler

I was at an upscale pet supply store and got a free sample of this. It says it "supports normal renal function and health; a healthy immune system; normal circulation; and long-term health." Does anybody know any more detail like how it accomplishes these things?

I have a friend that rescues that I know has used it in sick kittens, but I don't know for what or dose.

I just did a quick search. I'm guessing this is something used in traditional Chinese meds as part of a formula. I wouldn't use it unless it was under the direction of my holistic vet. And it seems it may be cruel to harvest.

There are definitely no safety studies in cats, maybe not even in people yet.
