We've had our cats on Purina Healthy Weight but when we went to pick up more, no store had any in stock!!! Not Wal-Mart, Publix, Our Commissary or local Pet Stores, EVERYONE was out, even of the small bags, and I had a mild freak out over it since this has been what Nova and Leo have been on since they were each kittens. As a last resort we got Purina Kit & Kaboodle since it was the same brand. We have enough Healthy Weight left to transition them to the new food but I'm still worried that it might upset their tummies. Mercury is already having a bit of an issue with diarrhea (from what I believe to be from the food switch from what his previous home was feeding him) so now I'm very worried about him in particular.

Does any one have any good (or bad) experiences with this food? I've also been told pumpkin can help, how much should I give him a day/each feeding?

IMO, the Kit & Kaboodle is a lower quality food; so, it doesn't surprise me if it is causing some upset to your kitties' tummies.
If you look at the ingredients of the Healthy Weight, it mentions Poultry by-product meal as the #1 ingredient. The first time any actual meat (listed as "meat and bone meal") in Kit & Kaboodle is the 5th ingredient.

What about using Purina One Beyond?? I mean, if you are in a pinch you have to give them something. But, there are better options than the Kit & Kaboodle.

We haven't started it yet, we just got the K&K (its the Express not Original) today. They were out of practically everything, its like there's a freaking cat food shortage! Our cats don't like any sort of wet cat food, they flat out refuse it and they also hate Science Diet (wet or dry), we tried that by our vets recommendation with each one when we adopted them and all three refused it. When we couldn't find any last time we tried that refrigerated cat food and Purina Indoor Formula and neither one worked in getting them to eat.

Purina makes several levels of dry cat food. Kit and Kaboodle is one of the cheaper and less nutritious types. Still, it is better than letting them go hungry.

I suppose it'll do in an emergency. But it is one of the lowest-quality foods on the market, so I wouldn't want to feed it for any prolonged amount of time. Try to get their normal food as soon as someone gets it in stock.

We only bought one of the smaller 5lbs bags in hopes they'll be in stock of Healthy Weight or something better by the end of the week. I know that Healthy Weight isn't one of the best foods but its all they'll eat. Nova and Leo are barely touching the K&K that we've given them, Mercury doesn't seem quite as picky but still doesn't seem to enthusiastic about meal time and isn't flat out refusing it like he (and the other two) did with Science Diet and wet foods. We've tried many types of food, especially with Nova because as a kitten he had several food sensitivities (that thankfully he grew out of) but both Leo and Nova have refused all foods, going so far as a days at a time without so much as attempting the new food we might get and each time we broke down and, once, went so far as to drive to the next town to get Healthy Weight. We even tried raw feeding once but they even refuse fresh meats and we are at a complete loss

What are some healthier options that you feed your kitties and have had good success with? Anyone have advice about dealing with picky kitties?

You say they won't eat wet food. Have you tried the Sheba brand of wet food? When my ladies get fussy, a spoon of the Turkey Cuts mixed in usually helps.

While not MY favorite, I have been able to get several picky eaters on Purina Naturals. All those kitties have recently made the switch to Instinct Limited Ingredient Turkey Meal Formula...including my Mom's super picky eater. Molly is one who would starve before she would eat most things. She will eat dry out of a bowl; but wet...that has to be eaten either off the floor or off a placemat. She currently only weights 6.2 lbs (our goal is to get her holding at 7) and that is because we are constantly doing things to coax her to eat. I think we tried about a dozen or so different foods with her before she finally settled on the Instinct.

I've never seen Sheba here but we've tried 9 Lives, Friskies, Purina Wet, EVO, Science Diet and quite a few others with both Nova and Leo and they refuse to touch it, they barely touch anything other than Purina Healthy Weight.

To my knowledge I have never seen Instinct here though Nova does enjoy the poultry flavored treats we give him on occasion so we may be able to find a dry poultry based food but so far we've been unsuccessful in everything we've tried to switch them too.

When I fed them yesterday, all three were hesitant to touch the straight up K&K and only after 3 hours of begging and determining for themselves that the Healthy Weight bag was empty did they eat it and even then only about a 1/3 of it was ate. I'm at my wits end

Not sure exactly where you are located; but, our local Petco and Pet Supplies Plus carry Instinct in store. Both offer a swap program if your kitties do not like the food (just keep receipt.)

Thats great to know! I know there's no Pet Supplies Plus near enough to us but I do believe there is a Petco somewhere closer by, I'll definitely check it out!
