Just joined here yesterday, so be gentle with me! I have 2 cats, 11 year old Poppy and 2 year old Bonita. Poppy has had trouble passing stools and had to have an enema under GA two weeks ago. The vet can't find any reason for it and has recommended lactulose yesterday. She hates taking it by the syringe yet won't take it in her food either. I don't want to keep stressing her out and have heard Miralax in powder form mixed in her food works wonders and is undetectable. I could really do with some advice. Is Miralax as good as the reviews say? Many thanks for any help you can give. I love my fur baby girl and it is horrible to see her straining. Apart from that, the vet says she's a really healthy cat for her years. Many thanks in advance!

Miralax does seem to be preferred over Lactulose, for more accurate dosing and taste. There are two things I would recommend. One is an all wet diet, and second is reading this site: http://www.felineconstipation.org/ which has the best information on feline constipation.

Angel was very constipated when we first got her. She had to lay on the floor and pull her poop out. What worked for us was getting a water fountain. She hates drinking from a bowl, and when she discovered she could drink the water pouring from my fish filter she started going easier. I thought the fountain would be safer than standing on the fish tank. :)

As far as the mirilax goes, I don't know about cats, but my daughter says you can't taste it.

Thank you both so much for your reply. I'm managing to get the lactulose in her but have ordered Miralax because I think it would be less stressful giving her that. The good news is the lactulose seems to be working as I had a massive poop in her tray this morning. Long may it continue :)
Thanks again x
