Did you give your female cat a male cat name or vice versa ?

Thunder was given to me by my daughter not knowing it was a girl cat,so I just kept the name. The name Thunder came from my mother in laws dog name.

"Ritz" can be either male or female; I base that on people asking how "he" is doing.

I refer to Ritz as Ritz when talking to other people; when we're alone I almost always say "Precious Girl" or "Pretty Girl".  I think they relate more to the tone than the word/name.

I take / took care of a feral/stray cat colony.  Several times I've name cats "Cindy" and "Becky" only to have to rename them "Sandy" and "Buckley" after learning shes were hes.

When I first got Wiskers I didn't know if she was a boy or girl I was scared if I checked she would get scared so I waited a week so she could get used to me and trust me better and she was a girl so I made shure I gave her a name for both and Stich was given a boy name by my dads friend Nelly and Nelly knew she was a girl but named her Stich because she has a cousin named Lelou and Nelly thought it would be cute because there is Lelou the chiwawa and Stich the cat and its like the cartoon Lelo and Stich

I gave one of my cats a boy name, Picasso.. Cassie for short to make it more feminine. I knew she was a female when I got her

Our cat Nova is a boy, though Nova is generally a girl name. Our other two males have masculine names, Leo and Mercury.

I know Swanie sounds like a girl name, but that was what they named him at the rescue shelter and we kept it.  Sometimes we get "she" and some people call him Swainie.

I thought Angel was a girl the first year, before I took him in. He was already neutered, & I hadn't had a cat before, so I thought he was a she.

Also, when trying to name him, even as a girl, I didn't particularly like the name Angel, but nothing else seemed to fit. It was more of a what he was to me, vs/ the name. I really believe he was sent to me & has been my little blessing, so Angel fits, even though he's a boy.
He really is such a sweet boy, except for the occasional sassy mood, in which he gets called McSassy!

I named my boy Muffin and some have told me that is a female name. It just seemed appropriate at the time. Speedboat was a male and I guess his name could have been for either male or female.
