Thank you for rescuing this baby.

Try calling a local shelter or vet. They sometimes have a lactating mother cat who can take on an extra baby. If not, they may have contacts for you.

Where are you located? It's possible that another TCS member lives close enough to you to be familiar with the local resources.

I would go on petfinder.com    a site where shelters and rescues list pets for adoption... but that also means you could look for shelters and rescue groups in your area ,  and just start calling and ask if they have a queen with young kittens  and would be willing to try to see if she would accept a foster kitten.

You could also try calling local vets;  sometimes they also might know of a mama cat.

Thanks for rescuing that kitten,  and good luck with your search.  You're right that the best thing for the kitten would be a mother cat and some other kittens.

Did you try all the rescue groups in the towns around you?    What about Houston?    it looks like there are quite a few but maybe you already called them all .  http://www.petfinder.com/awo/index.cgi?location=77521&keyword=

It would be great if she had a cat mom but a human substitute mom is sure a LOT better than NO mom!  She would not even be alive  without YOU.  So if you can't find a  mama cat,  you will just have to be the mama as best as you can.

The http://kitten-rescue.com/   site has a lot of tips on caring for orphan kittens,  including about feeding,  helping them eliminate , keeping them warm.. but also other things like how to make a little pouch and carry the kitten next to your heart.

and for when you can't carry her,  you could get her a Snuggle Kitty ( stuffed animal with a heartbeat sound and a thing to put in that can be heated ) or a Snuggle Puppy if you cant find a cat version ... I doubt the kitten would know the difference! .

Or you could just fill a sock with uncooked rice and warm it in the microwave and put with her.   ( You should have some heating pad or something in her box anyway,  but leave room for her to crawl away from it. )   But a single kitten sometimes also finds it comforting to have a warm soft thing they can cuddle with.  even if it is a sock full of rice!

Oh no she wasn't on her back believe me she doesn't like to lay on her back or her stomach to eat she tries to sit up. I called my vet to ask if that was fine and he said she might feel better and safer that way instead

Thanks Cheetosmom,    I guess it was just hard to see the angle in the photo and I wanted to be sure you knew about the risk.    It's OK if sitting up as long as she doesn't end up tilted back to where she is more likely to aspirate the formula....   that's why i gave all those links to pictures showing different ways that are OK since some kittens are happier lying down and some happier being held sitting up.
