Cat's neutering incision seems large, opening.

So it's been a day since we got our cat back from his neutering. (The vet kept him over night).

I'm a little concerned, and maybe for no reason, but the incision seemed to spread a little bit overnight. There is no seepage, redness or blood. So maybe I'm overthinking things.

The other thing that bothers me is just that the incision itself seems much larger than it should be. Like the entire backside of his scrotum was cut in a Y-shape? Everything I've ever seen says the incision should be a small hole?

He doesn't seem to be in pain. When we got home he pretty much shot out of the carrier and was ready to play, but trying to stop him from licking is rough.

I appreciate any input!

My understanding is that there are two separate and tiny incisions to remove the testicles separately. Here's a good link that shows diagrams of what happens. http://www.pet-informed-veterinary-advice-online.com/feline-neutering.html#how-desex

I think if you have questions or concerns you should call the vet that did the procedure and ask them what is normal procedure there and what you can expect. If he is not showing any signs of pain, and the incision seems to be healing fine, I don't think you have too much to worry about, but if it would help set your mind at ease, I would definitely call the vet.

Oh, and hi and welcome to TCS!

That looks painful and nothing like what my little guy's incision looked like.  Heck, I couldn't even see his incision!  LOL  Is the yellow stuff something they put on to seal the incision?

That doesn't look anything like Patches looked after he was neutered.  He had an X over where each of his bits were.  I would definitely get that looked at.

The incision at my boys did opened up a little, under was dry meat, so to say.  this is because they dont sew these incisions, they are supposed to dry out by themselves.

So for my eye it doesnt look too peculiar, especeilly if the cat runs no fever or has other symtoms..

I dont know what this yellow is.  Some healing paste they put on??

I agree with above, if you feel unsure, do phone the vet who did the operation, or a collegue at the same clinic.

It doesn't look like my Wellingtons incision and he hardly had any fur off there wasn't any problem with him even bothering where the incision was he didn't take any notice of it .

Maybe you should take him back to the vet to have a look , what's the yellow stuff ?
