Good morning and TGIF! (And Happy Friday, the 13th!!)

My question this morning deals with stereos, record players, CD players, etc. How do you listen to music at home? What's your stereo like? Do you have components or an all-in-one system?

We have an old (quite old actually) system, but it still plays well, so we keep it around. Back in the late 1970s, I bought a bunch of stereo components and still have most of them.....I told you it was old!!!

Yamaha turntable (a few years ago, I bought 3 stylus units from eBay for the turntable because, at that time, I was having finding the exact one I needed)

Genesis II floor speakers

Harmon Kardon receiver is about ten years old; DS gave it to me one year for Christmas to replace an older HK that bit the dust.

Aiwa 5-disc CD player (I don't think the company even exists anymore)

So the system is old, but still works OK. We keep talking about getting a new system, but at this point, I have no idea what to get. Rick still wants surround sound for the tv and he thinks we could plug the system into that and get rid of the Genesis speakers....they do take up floor space.

I have music (classic rock only, please, with a bit of blues) playing constantly when I'm at home by myself. I clean the house to music, cook to music, and bake to music.

What do you listen to music on?

Good evening Winchester and everyone...

I got through Friday 13th unscathed and hope you all do the same!

I have an all in one system.   I don't listen to music enough, I think.

I also use the radio for specific music programmes to find new stuff.

We have a lot of older components like you. They aren't hooked up though. When we moved to this house over 8 years ago we put them aside and said we would hook them up, but never did! We do have a surround sound system on the TV, but don't use it very often/ I have a small counter top radio in the kitchen that I have on when in there. WE have a very old boombox that we use when working outside. We are way behind the times as far as stereo equipment is concerned.

We had a turntable, cassette player hooked up to our stereo system.  A couple of years ago we realized it was just taking up space (and space is at a premium in this house) so we got rid of it.  We do have a dvd player that plays CD's.

When the girls wanted new iPods a couple of years ago- I took one of their old ones.  Hey- it still works- why on earth would I throw away a $100 piece of electronics (apple won't buy it back that's how old it is).  When they got their 1st iPods- we bought them both these iHome players (and those weren't cheap either).  Guess what?  The new iPods the kids got- wouldn't work with the iHome system (and that is one reason I LOTHE Apple you have to constantly upgrade and I think it is a huge money waster).  So I now have one of those that I play with the old iPod.

I have an iPod with a dock and a CD player/radio. I also have a Roku and can play Pandora from it, which is nice. That said, I do most of my music listening in the car.

Before I get up in the morning my husband has the TV on the music channel then when  it goes off at 2 pm he like to turn on a alarm clock radio. but that's when I go downstairs and tell him enough is enough and I turn on the TV to watch my shows. I love music too but I don't want to stay upstairs all day.

I have an AIWA stereo which is all in one.  It plays up to 3 CD's and has two small speakers, 12 inches high but that's all I need or want.  I never play the stereo at it's loudest.  I mostly listen to the oldies station  on the radio.  This stereo is also quite old and since it sounds so good, I won't replace it.

I have a Bose sound dock for my iPod (lives in the kitchen but it's portable) and also we have a Yamaha sound system for the TV in the living room where you can plug in your iPod to listen.

Not by much but it is!

A few years ago DH and I got a radio/cd player that mounts under a kitchen cabinet.  I love it.  The sound is better than the big stereo I had in high school!  I can hook my ipod to it too.  I can't see the brand name from here and I'm feeling too lazy to get up and look...  I do sometimes listen to things on the computer too; even though my desk is in the big room that makes up the kitchen and dining areas.  DH got some decent speakers for it; GE brand.  We also have music channels on the TV; but don't use them too often.

We used to have a pretty nice stereo set with a 3 disk changer; then one day DH dropped it...
We've been ok without it though.  It had several large speakers and I don't miss them taking up floor space.

I don't have a stereo.  I have all my music on my iPod, Phone and Computer.

I do wake up to a clock radio though.  Stations sound full of static though.

I've only got a tiny, basic MP3 and only use it when I've got a long bus or train trip. Not had the money to get a decent one I can plug in to the system in the apartment tho' I do have an amp' that I can do this with. I have a separates system in the sitting room and had to replace the amp' a couple of years ago but it's only linked to a pretty old CD player - good but old, and a pair of very nice (almost as old)  bi-wire speakers. I can play pretty much anything on this set up and it sounds great - which was a challenge coz I have what's best described as an eclectic taste in music. I download most of the new music I get now so end up having to copy it on to CDs to play on the separates in the house or sound system in the car....   I've got little CD radios in each room but really only listen to the radio on them when I get up in the morning, or play a relaxing CD when I'm reading in the  'spare' room.  Oh, and I play audio CD books on the one in the bedroom sometimes at night when I can't sleep.  Always loved music but decided to get rid of my many vinyl records years back as they took up way too much space in the apartment.

Don't play as much music as I used to as Mouse doesn't like it - he gets a bit puzzled by the stereo setup in the sitting room and his hears go crazy.

I either listen on the computer with headphones, or my little Sony Walkman mp3 player.  I don't need a lot of fancy bells and whistles.  We do have a CD player in the living room, and a radio, but I honestly can't remember the last time I had it on.

I rarely listen to "canned" music, but DH does all the time. He's got a compact stereo system that he moves between the living room (where he plays guitar) and spare bedroom (where he's got his piano).

Hey, I said it was old!!!

I fully understand that the speakers you buy today completely overpower what we have....Rick tells me that all the time.

When our son still lived at home, he'd take the speakers outside on the deck; we had enough cord that he could easily take them outside. Then he'd lounge around in the pool while listening to music. He'd fill the CD player in the living room with disks and spend the afternoon in the pool with the music blaring....I'm sure the neighbors were quite fond of him. Rick says that he took after his mother.....DS was a classic rock hound even back then and he liked his music loud. (I do that, too, sometimes. I was really blaring it one afternoon when I was home from work and cleaning the house. Later on that night, one of the neighbors came over to complain about the music ; she thought it was our son and she thought I should know what he was doing. I didn't have the guts to tell her that.....um.....um.....that was me.
)

Our son gave me a speaker system for the computer one year for Christmas and I use that often when I'm working on the computer. It has a great subwoofer that I can use for lots of bass.

I don't think we have an actual stereo or radio in our house lol. I use my Ipod or listen through Pandora on our tv, xbox 360 or phones. I also listen through my laptop.
