Hi everyone!  I am new here and would appreciate any ideas of suggestiona.  A little background.  I feed the feral cats on my street (much to all my neighbor's dismay).  I have one mama cat (Piper) with 4 new babies.  Before Piper was her Mom Pi, which I managed to find a home for along with her last batch of four.  All of Pi's family is named after her as she is a princess. There is Daddy Pi, Mamma Pi, Pandi Pi, Moon Pi, PePi, Pandora Pi.  Piper was from Pi's first batch which I only met after they had grown, Piper being one of them, the other 3 of that batch sadly did not survive.  We live on a very busy street so I am constantly worried for these babies.  Piper chose to have her babies accross the street and even though I hide food in my neighbor's bushes (yikes) she has started to bring them over.  Crossing the street!  The babies are even hiding under the hoods of cars so my husband and I make sure to pop the hood and check before taking off to work  I just worry that they will go under the hoods of stranger's cars that won't know to check.  Anyway, the problem is I have not been able to find anyone willing to take them and I can't because I am full up with dogs and birds (in a very small house).  I have not been able to find a rescue able to help me.   I do not want to take them to a shelter where they would be put down. I do have an appointment for Piper to be spayed on the 25th.  That was the soonest I could get. Just don't know what to do with these kitties.  I just want them to be safe.  By the way they are all beautiful of course.  One of Pi's babies looks just like a Panda Bear, all white, black tail black ears and a black nose, (Pandi Pi)  Well 2 of Piper's babies have the Pandi nose!  Thank you in advance and happy to meet everybody!

make sure the kittens are cared for while momma is being spayed. Mamma should not go out right away, so if you can keep her in a cage or room for a few days while she heals and the kittens can be cared for, otherwise they may not make it. If you have a garage attached to your home, that would be a great place for them. As for what to do for them, try and get them fixed or spayed asap too. Check with the vet to see how old they need to be. Some say it can be done at a fairly young age.

Thank you Katmando!!  Do you think it is too soon?  The kitties are eating on their own.  I do think she is still nursing a little from the looks of her, but they do eat lots of cat food too.  I do not  want to take her away and leave them alone too soon.  I am actually worried she may already be pregnant again.  Her tummy seemed quite round last night.  I don't know what I will do if that is the case!  She has gotten quite sweet and lets me pet her and likes the attention.  I do not think she will tolerate being picked up so I will have to trap her.   The kitties will definately have to be traped if I do end up finding them homes.  When I took Pi to be spayed I was told 4 to 6 months for the kitties to be done.  So it will be awhile for them.  I know I have to keep her inside somewhere while she heals.  Still working out that issue.  I do not have a garage that would work.  I have a big backyard and it is my dream someday to build a small house just for the feral cats.  This is a dream and not even close to being financially feasable.

If they're eating well, they're old enough to be without her for a couple days. Especially by the 25th, which is almost 2 weeks away. Some spay clinics will say to let her go the next morning, some will tell you to keep her in for 2-3 days. Use your judgement as to what will be the least stressful for her.

Don't wait too long to have the babies fixed---kittens can be fertile as young as 4 months of age. So if they're 2 months old, that's only 2 months from now. Maybe you can make their appointments when you take Piper in. Especially if there's a long waiting list.

A reasonably sized cat enclosure can be built for not too much money, if you know someone who's handy. 2 x 4s, some fencing, a little plywood, a bunch of heavy-duty staples. . .

Thank you Willowy!  Yes, 2 weeks away and I am sure she will not be nursing them any more at all by then.  I don't want to stress her and I worry all this is going to tramatize her.  :(  But I know it has to be done.  Poor Piper! And good Idea, I will make the kitties appointments very soon as there was a long waiting list.

I will definately look into finding someone handy to build an enclosure.
