ONE OF MY CATS NAMED VICTORIA RECENTLY LOST ONE OF HER HIND LEGS AFTER GETTING HIT BY A CAR. I AM STILL UPSET WITH THE VET DUE TO HER AMPUTATION BEING CAUSED BY AN INFECTION AFTER THEY RESET HER DISLOCATED HIP THAN THE ACCIDENT ITSELF. SO FAR SHE IS RECOVERING FINE AND IS STARTING TO FIND HER FEET.  BUT HAVING A SPECIAL NEEDS CAT IS NEW TO ME. THERE HASNT BEEN MUCH ON THE INTERNET ABOUT FELINE AMPUTATIONS AND HOW TO CARE FOR THEM AND HELP THEM ADJUST.  PLEASE HELP ME HELP HER TRANSITION BACK TO BEING A KITTEN

She will be a bit wobbly at first, but she'll soon adapt and you won't even realize she's missing a limb.  She'll be able to run and play with the best of them!

I did a search of previous threads on amputation to share with you.  You'll find some good advice in them.  Most of them are very encouraging.  http://www.thecatsite.com/newsearch?search=amputation

Hello!  Please visit my kitty's blog, jillsjourney.tripawds.com

Jill is now 9 months post amputation (for cancer) and doing AMAZING, you will be amazed at how well your baby will do on three legs!!  I have her entire recovery process documented on the blog if you go back all the way to the beginning!

just wanted to thank everyone for their help. victoria is doing great she got her sutures out yesterday and is up and about like nothing ever happened. she has figured out getting on the bed and the couch. altho i am still having difficulty with her using the litter box. i know that she knows where it is because she will get litter all over herself. but still seems to prefer to use the closet instead.

Glad she's doing better after her amputation!  Cats are so good at figuring life out.  For the litter box problem, is it possible to put a box in there?  Try various boxes with different litter.  She might not like what you're using.
