Chubbs is 7 years old and has never been sick before. We made a huge move from south Florida to Texas two weeks ago. I knew she would have issues with the stress but I didn't realize how bad. She was born in this house and is familiar with my mothers cat and dog, but we lived in Florida for over 4 years.

She has been sneezing and coughed up white liquid twice. While at the vet they ran a few blood tests to check for feline leukemia and aids and thankfully both came back negative. Shes on an antibiotic now and the vet gave me Felovite II but over the last two days she has refused all food. Shes never cared for wet food but she did lick at some of the gravy when I offered her a can of chicken chunks in gravy. She isn't acknowledging dry food at all. I've tried several different flavors of wet food and cooked chicken liver as well with no results.

I'm currently unemployed so my funds are very limited, I wasn't able to do all of the testing the vet wanted...but I honestly think its due to stress from the move, which he wouldn't even consider.

How do I get my girl to eat again?

Also, what are the thoughts on liquid meal replacements? She has been drinking water regularly and she did lick up the gravy. I saw CatSure in a quick google search but I don't know anyone who has ever used that before.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!

Hi and welcome to TCS. Sorry to hear that your cat is sick. Developing an URI from the stress of the move is pretty common. Not eating because of congestion is also common. You can try steaming her in the bathroom. Also try warming up her food slightly to make it more smelly and attractive. Use stinky foods like tuna water to entice her to eat. Stick to wet food only for now as it's more healthy for cats anyway.

If your cat has not eaten much in 48 hours, I would seriously consider syringe feeding now. Cats can develop fatty liver disease especially if overweight at all. Here's a good vide on how to do that. http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating

I know you said you're strapped for money, but you should ask the vet for an appetite stimulant.  She has probably developed an upper respiratory infection from all the stress.  Also running a feliway diffuser will help with her stress level.  I know they're expensive, but it might really help.  To get her to eat, you can syringe feed her.  Get some wet food (Fancy Feast usually works well for this), put a bit in her bowl, add a bit of water to make it the consistency of oatmeal and then warm it in the microwave or in a water bath.  Warming it up will entice her to eat.  Also, you might consider limiting her to one room and providing her a box with a hole cut out for her "safe place".  If she's congested, steam her in the bathroom to help open up her nose.

Thank you both. The other post on syringe feeding was very helpful and I've started that today. She doesn't like it, but at least shes getting food into her system. She's always hated wet food, so I doubt that she'll take it willingly, but I'll try. I've also set everything up in my room and kept her in here, she seems to have relaxed some aside from all the unfamiliar sounds outside (noisy neighbors).
