Hi my kittie Bella just got diagnosed with Stomatitis and I am a wreck. I feel terrible knowing she's probably been in pain for a while and I didn't even know. The vet said they'll have to perform surgery to extract some teeth out, the ones in the back. I am anxious to know if anyone of you guys have had a cat with Stomatitis and if after the surgery it has been cured. Please someone let me know, I am supposed to schedule the surgery this week. I have never heard of Stomatitis. Thanks!

I'm sorry I do not have any experience with this condition either but from what I have read it can be found in certain breeds so it can be hereditary or can be from an autoimmune suppressed system. My male cat has autoimmune issues but it has not affected his teeth so far just his is respiratory and allergy. Don't beat yourself up no one would really have known what was going on its not a common condition. My female recently had 12 teeth removed on one side of her mouth due to gingivitis that infected the bone so I know how you feel I did not know her mouth was that bad. the vet told me about the condition you mentioned and they have a cat with all teeth removed and it is doing fine. It is better to have the teeth removed than for it to be in pain. There is good info on this site so you should get some good info on it. Wishing you the best of luck and let us know whats going on.  My girls doing fine after her extractions going on 4 weeks already.

Hi lolarox86, my cat has had stomatitis and so far we have been very lucky as he hasn't needed teeth extracted and responded well to initial antibiotics and dental care routine / diet. He continues to have gum issues and his mouth and teeth have to have regular checks and vet contact. The most recent thread I've been on which has quite a bit of information is:

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/242032/will-my-cat-be-ok-if-his-teeth-are-removed/30#post_3405479

I hope this gives you some information and also some reassurance.  Perhaps read the last post before you read the whole thread as it is very positive and I am sure you are in need of some TLC and reassurance at this point. I know what a panic I was in when I was first told what was happening with Mouse and I felt so worried (and guilty that I had not been aware of signs earlier - he had large sores on his tongue, angle of his jaw, and severe tonsillitis as well as red and swollen gums).

There are a lot of members on this site living with cats who have stomatitis and many of them have had surgery. I hope you receive a lot of answers and some support from those who see your post.
