I could just imagine the sweet looks on their faces while they casually lounge on the bed, or at least how the cats I know would look. Bad kitties!

The only one of mine who ever did the TP thing was Shasta -- lo, these many years ago, now. And did she ever do it! All by herself, all over the house -- except the livingroom, whose door I could and did close when I was not able to supervise. Others have watched the humans taking paper off the roll, but never got the idea that they, too, could have this experience. Praise be!!

We've had lots of greeting cards and photographs toppled off the mantel, but learned reeeeeeal early to move the irreplaceables high enough that they can't get at them, and mostly we've managed without serious mishap.

WOW! I must have little
! My guys have never shown interest in the TP, or opening cabinets, and they never have broken anything.

hmmmm....why do I have the feeling I just tempted the fates.

I must admit that one of my fellas has a bra fettish!
It's the only piece of clothing he'll try and steal.

Gotta love them!!

When Tailer was a kitten I used to have to hide the TP too or else she'd spin the whole darned thing off onto the floor or worse, into the toilet! You can't just flush that stuff down you know.

Toes will turn on lights. Freaked me out the first time it happened, but he'll jump up and turn lights on and off.

Oh, and this is kind of gross, but Tailer likes to pull used tissues or feminine things out of the trash and rip them apart and spread them all over the house. I've never had a cat like that. I tried trash cans with lids, then trash cans with snap on lids, then putting the trash can inside the cupboard. Yes, I needed child proof locks on my cupboards. Darn cat was able to get into things I had troubles getting into!

TTMom - It is gross, but my cats will do it too. They used to get into any waste baskets I had in the house. So, now I have one garbage can in the kitchen that I bungy corded to a microwave cart so they can't knock it over or get into it.

And that theory that if you put the TP on backwards they can't get at it, my girls get at it and turn it into shreds and then scatter it around the house, or worse, eat it. So, TP in the baby locked cabinet it is for me!

ROTFL

Yep, sounds familiar! They stopped doing the toilet paper thing a long time ago, but we still have to hide the paper towel rolls. Mr. Underfoot & Sylvestra think they're the perfect size for rabbit-kicking! If we ever forget & leave the roll out, we find bits of shredded paper towel everywhere, and the remaining half-shredded roll unrolled all over the house. Mr. Underfoot is crazy about bread, too - if we leave a loaf of bread unattended after it's brought home from the grocery store, he'll tear into it and eat a bite out of each piece - he's not content just to take a slice, he has to tear up the entire loaf!
It's kind of good to know we're not the only ones who have to latch our cabinets!

Also if Felixia feels like you're not paying enough attention to her, she'll jump up onto the shelves & start knocking stuff off.

Does anyone know if they will outgrow this toilet paper stage?

Don't hold your breath.
Sylvestra & Mr. Underfoot, the paper towel shredders, are almost 10 years old.

With a little experience, you learn to spot opportunities for kitty mischief and pre-empt them. Keep the bathroom door closed, spray bitter apple on the plants, put rocks over the soil in houseplants, close up objects of interest in pantries, etc. Providing lots of toy distractions helps too.

We learned the hard way that we cannot leave TP rolls out in the open. If they are ON the roll the kitties aren't interested. My husband had a bad habit of not replacing the roll, just setting the new roll on top of the empty spool or on the counter. This stopped after losing two rolls in a row to Trent.

We also have to put away brand new packages of TP, since the plastic does not do anything to hide the fun to be had inside.

I won't even go into paper towels.

Oh Tess.....everything that I spray bitter apple on Legolas licks, he loves the stuff! As for the plants the only interest they have for them is to eat the leaves but they aren't toxic plants but my plants look so sad now.

We have provided them with almost every cat toy we could get our hands on and they don't like any of them except the Tennis Balls. We bought the Tennis Balls for our dog Cisco and the kittens attacked him to get the Tennis Balls now the poor dog doesn't have many toys left that he can call his own. Even his chewie isn't safe around these 2 Monsters!

Yeah Em does that too. I had to stop putting anything in little bathroom grabage pail. Everything goes in the kitchen garbage with the cover. But he's always on his hind legs trying to get into it.

My parents had a cat that shredded newspaper and magazines--we lost a lot of stuff that way.

They also had a cat that would open any package on the couch and shred it.

Toes will go after litter bags and spread the litter over the entire house if I don't put them in the top of a closet he CANNOT open. Forget them sliding doors or else he'll be in there and litter will be all over the closet.

I have a base cabinet that I keep some canned and boxed food in, before I got the baby locks for all of the doors sometimes I would come home and find various items outside of the cabinet.

One day I found a box of Mrs. Grass soup in my bedroom with teeth marks all over the box, another time I found my jar of artichokes in the bathroom, and a packet of oatmeal strewn around the kitchen. And for the record, I taped all the cabinets shut, the little furries still managed their way past the tape sometimes.

Anyhoo, I finally got the baby locks on the doors (thanks jgaruba for installing them for me). So, no more cabinet robbers for me. My TP and food are all safe. And somehow, I don't think they are going to grow out of this habit. I am just waiting for the day when they figure a way to open the baby locks.
