  Hi,

We recently took in a cat that has what the vet called sensitive ears.  It drives him crazy, sometimes to where he shakes his head and growls. The vet says his ears are healthy with no problems. She gave him steroid drops, but we are not to use them every day, they are not helping anyway.

It is not noisy here and I have never see anything bothering his ears when he has a problem. So I don't know really whether it is like the vet said or a bigger problem.

But has anyone had experience with this or know anything about it?   What can I use on his ears that would help this poor cat?

                                   Lurky is his name.
  Thanks for any help.

Hi,

How old is you cat? My cat has the same problem. She has allergies that caused an ear infection and now she is just still suffering from irritated ears. She seems fine sometimes but then she has bouts of scratching at them and shaking her head. Why did they vet say not to use the drops each day? Grace was prescribed Tresaderm drops (a steroid and antibiotic) for a week for both the infection and allergy. She was also given prednisone, an oral steroid for her allergies. Perhaps you could discuss allergies with the vet and maybe something being prescribed for that.

Thank you!

The vet guessed him to be 2-3 years old. She put him on Synotic, which she said was prednisone, steroid. To use for 4 days, then as needed. She did not give a reason why to not use every day, I guess not good for him beings it is ear drops.  ?

But what you talk of makes more sense, allergies. The vet did say he will be prone to ear infections, so sounds like what your Grace has.  I will see if she has something to use every day. I feel better knowing it is allergy's and not something worse.

Thank you very much, I hope Grace feels better.

Thank you very much for the article, I saved it. It will come in handy with 5 cats, hopefully not to handy though.

He has great balance and passed all the tests. She said his ears were very clean, with no scars or ear drum damage. But I'm going to keep an eye out to see if he starts walking wacky anyway, you never know.

                                                                               Thank you!

Thank-you very much. I hope Lurky feels better too.

Vball is correct that ear infections/allergies can cause other symptoms and issues in cats so it's important to treat them effectively.
