Tuesday's Question of the Day is AVAILABLE!!!! If you would like to be in charge of asking Tuesday's Question of the Day, please send me a PM. :)

Today's question is -

Do you consider yourself handy around the house?

I am. I don't hesitate to pick up a paintbrush, hammer, assemble something, etc. I told one of my friends yesterday that I was starting to pain the house and she was horrified because she would never consider doing it. :lol3:

I can do many things and fix stuff(either truly fix or rig it if it is beyond reasonable repair).  I will try to do anything.  only way to learn is to practice:)  My husband says he never knows what to expect as one time he went to sleep heard some noise woke up to the wood panels removed(house was to dark...lol)

I'll have a go at most things, but have pretty bad chemical insensitivity, so if I want to paint, sand etc I have to wear one of those WWII - type gas masks!

Still.. necessity is the mother of invention, so I've normally found my way around things.

Usually, yes. It depends on what it is. Painting a room? Sure! Painting the outside of the house? Uh uh, I hire someone for that (when I owned).

Yup, definitely. Since living on a farm, tore down some structures, built some stalls for the horses, built a chicken coop. Painted a bunch of stuff too.

Also changed the locks on the house, fixed the shower, tinkered over small things on the cars - like fixing the lights. If it counts, I'm also a seamstress. I'm always the go-to person when someone needs help with the Tv or computer...

The only thing I don't really do is the toilet. It's my one squeemish bit.

My mom is the same! She is a very handy person, and a gardener. I mostly learned everything from her, then some local farmers. Other times I taught myself. My dad never was handy haha (Which is funny, since his brother is a mechanic. But my dad is a physicist, so just picture a Finnish version of Sheldon Cooper) but he was the cook of the family. Early in my childhood, he was the one who stayed home while my mom went to work.

I hate cooking, and I hate cleaning. Though of course I do clean anyway because, well, it is being respsonsible and coming sense. But at least I'm still useful with other things! I'm happy this way
I'm not a lover of doing renovations or carpentry, but still thankfull of the skills/self reliancy in the long run, really happy with my "unconventional" family, and just overall gotta do what you gotta do.

More mechanically inclined than being handy although I can string wire and change light fixtures and do small plumbing repairs. That reminds me - MUST fix the light switch on the tractor

Yes then DH complains about the tools missing. My thing is if he did it the first time I wouldnt have to use his tools to fix things, therfore they wouldnt go missing.

Yes, I've painted a few times, helped put some stuff together and my favorite was putting up a rock wall in my brother-in-law's house.

My Mom was notorious for approaching Dad with tools in both hands (fully knowing neither one was fit for the job that needed doing :lol3:) and asking which one she needed.

Yep!  My Grandparents and Mom always let me be involved with projects growing up.  I like those more than regular ol cleaning.  DH and I have done a lot of painting together over the years but I've also done plenty on my own.  I'm good with most tools; just a little nervous about using the power tools I've never used before.  I know I've used a jigsaw in the past; but not on my own and not the one we own now for certain!  So I'm hesitant to do that without help.

I know it might sound weird; but painting and things like installing moldings in the house are some of my very favorite things to do with DH.  We work well together.

I can do it, but Rick prefers that I don't. No matter what I do, I can't do it to please him. He would have done it "this" way instead. I can paint; in fact, I think I'm a rather good painter. Rick has issues with the way I paint, though, but for the life of me, I don't paint any differently than he does. Except I'm probably a lot slower and I tend to make more of a mess. When we put the new floor in the bedroom, Rick will do it and he won't want me to help. I think he's a little "old-fashioned" in that way, that he thinks he should be doing some things.

In the spring, when the weather starts to warm up, I'll make up a list of things I want done around the house and the yard during the summer. It's a mix of short tasks combined with things that will take a while. It takes him a while to get started, but the list is usually all marked off by the end of the summer.

i like DIY stuff. last year i painted the outside of the house. my neighbor, who's a handyman, told me 'i can do it. it's only paint. the big argument with DH wasn't about what color but  that  'the wife painted the house.

last fall i took out all the carpet, painted the whole inside and put vinyl flooring in, the strips that click together.

after that i put in metal fencepost and replaced  the old wooden fence with a new one. DH did help me with the 2x4's.

and then i dug up the parking strip in front of the house, it was just crabgrass, and put in all succulents.

Hubby gets scared when i say 'let's go to Home Depot. he's not handy at all. he always asks me why i want to do whatever project when you can pay someone else. just to see if i can.

i get worried if i see him with a hammer or any tool in his hands

l love to tackle anything that's hands on. Back before l started my home business, l lived in a big old house with an unused summer kitchen. l insulated it, put up and finished the gyproc, installed the ceiling, put in a ceiling fan, painted, sanded the bare plank floor, and stained and varnished it. l was particularly proud of the floor.

At this house, my son and l installed a patio, built the fence, and built a shed (which is now rendered useless since a giant spider took it as its home!).

I am. Sometimes I have to get my dad's help if it's something I can't do, but for the most part I am, sense it's just me!
