Hello Friends!

I have something I need to ask you all. As some of you may already know I have a 2 1/2 year old cat whose name is Brownie. We've had her since April (6 months now) and she has a 6 week old female kitten we  named Aja.

In my introduction to this forum I mentioned that Mr. Wendall is the name I have given to a black and white male cat who I like to feed on occasion. He is a very, very friendly and sweet cat. One evening, while Brownie was still pregnant, Mr. Wendall followed me all the way home from the back yard he stays in. The people who own the house where he stays had told me that he is not their cat and the man of the house actually told me that I can take him home if  I wanted him. But I told him about Brownie and why I could not take him.

But After spending some time with him today I started thinking that it's going to be Winter soon and the family of the house do not allow him inside (although they do feed him).

I need to know from the feline experts here; Is There A Way to adopt Mr. Wendall even though I already have Brownie and Aja?  To be honest, something tells me it is not possible and I may end up creating a situation if I attempted to do so. I also realize that I cannot save every stray cat I come across. But even if I am just walking past the house to my son's bus stop, Mr. Wendall makes it a point to come up to me so I can pet him. I am slightly perturbed that he is always outdoors and it's going to be cold soon.

I could use some of your expert insight on this.

Thanks Guys.

Thank You vball91. I just read it and it is a very interesting article. Now I have to run the idea past my wife and see how she feels about it.

Aaaawwwwweeeeee Maaaaaaaannnnnnn!!!!

I just ran the idea of adopting Mr. Wendall past my wife and she is adamant about NOT adopting a male cat because of the whole "spraying thing".

I guess I Could divorce my wife and then adopt Mr. Wendall myself.

I work for a small rescue and come across this issue far too often...where someone is adamant about not wanting a male cat because of the *possibility* that they may spray. It is oh so sad because many of these super sweet boys get past up. In all actuality, female cats can be sprayers just as much as males. Maybe you could point that out to your wife?? While I cannot guarantee you that he wouldn't mark, having him neutered if he is not already and providing a relaxed and nurturing environment will make him less likely to do so (as with any other cat.)

CatPack, Thank You for the helpful advice.

I had the conversation with her today about adopting Mr. Wendall and she is not budging. Winter is right around the corner and the inhabitants of the house where he hangs around never allow him inside the house.

Guys, I would hate to have to do this but it looks like I'm going to have to adopt Mr. Wendall even against my wife's wishes. I think she's just being plain stubborn.
