well, my husband found a small 5 week old kitten abandoned in a box beside a dumpster. He had the most severe case of conjunctivitis I have ever seen.

His eyes are MUCH better, almost completely clear of the infection.

I was just wondering how long I should keep him quarantined after the eye infection goes away. My other kitten Sugar has been DESPERATE to get him out to play, and even tried busting him out of the bathroom a few times LOL

I was thinking maybe a week after his eyes clear up?

A quarantene is always useful, conjuncitvitis or not.  He may have fleas, mites, round worms.  As found in a box he wouldnt get them from the outside, so dont worry here!. But as he was apparently from a neglecting home, he can have them anyway.  Especielly roundworms, if the mom wasnt properly dewormed...

Beware of OTC dewormers. Some are useless or even dangerous.

I suppose you were to the vet with this severe conjunctivitis?  What did said the vet?  If you forgot to ask then, you can phone now and ask. As his paying patient in follow up of the errand you payed for, you have the right to phone and ask - even if he usually is reluctant to answering telephone questions for free.

Good luck!

I think Stephan is right - call the vet. Worse case is the conjunctivitis hasn't quite cleared up, even though his eyes are better. No sense in having two sick kittens. Sugar will meet his new pal soon...

Thank you for taking care of this kitty!

Called the vet, he said that if I could keep them separated until well after his eyes are clear (he still didn't say) that everything should be fine. I was also informed that it doesn't appear to be feline herpes, so if Sugar did catch anything through the door (one of my concerns) that it wouldn't be serious (phew!)

He is quite wormy, so I'll be waiting until he's at least 8 weeks old and getting a good de-wormer, not OTC crap. The death rates on those are ridiculous!
