looking for homegrown seeds for kitty for grass/catnip.

i tried lowe but they didn't have it. i only saw dried version in places like petco/petsmart.

i want to grow my own . is online the best place to buy. i like to just go to a store and get it without having to wait for shipping.

There's no place like home
I've seen catnip seeds at our local plant nursery, which happens to have a wall of seed packages to choose from. I'd avoid places like Lowes and Home Depot - any seeds they get tend to be old.

This time of the year it is nearly impossible (around here, anyway) to find cat grass and catnip seed to grow your own at places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, TSC, Big R,  etc.  Most pet stores carry cat grass seed kits year round, but I've have had little luck with that variety.

Every spring, I purchase multiple packets of Burpee brand cat grass seed - enough to get me through the year.  Usually only one packet of catnip seed is all I need as the stuff grows like crazy for me in a five gallon bucket!  I store my unused seeds in a cool location, usually the refrigerator in the height of the summer, and have never had any problem getting them to sprout.

A couple of hints regarding growning:  if you grow the catnip outdoors, put it someplace where the local outside cat population isn't going to destroy it.  Or protect it with some sort of fencing/chicken wire/wire mesh.  I have my catnip 'bucket' elevated on patio blocks to discourage the neighborhood ferals.

For the cat grass:  if you buy the kit from the pet store, I do not recommend using the plasic container for growing.  It simply is NOT heavy enough to keep a cat from tipping/knocking it over.  Old coffee mugs and even a glass pie-plate work wonderfully for this!  I've used both.

The beauty of using a pie plate is multiple cats can graze at the same time...so as long as they are willing to share! ;-)

You can direct order seed from Burpee's website for catnip and cat grass.  Gurney's website doesn't appear to offer either.

Another brand I have had luck is Livingston Seed Co., which I came across at the local Big R store. Unfortunately, their website caters only to wholesalers and vendors.

These are just the brands I have used.  There are plenty of seed companies out there, of course. ;-)

Try Baker Creek or Cherry Gal seeds.  I've ordered from both and have had good success.  The Cherry Gal packets are considerably smaller, so you're not left with tons of seeds.  Also, look online for the Botanical Interest brand.  You may even be able to order from their website.
