I have one of those finger brushes and a tube of petromalt toothpaste. Amber doesnt like me handling her so the only thing i can do is get in a few swipes on each side of her mouth. Is this good enough? i want to be able to keep her back teeth relatively healthy so I dont have to put her to sleep for a tooth cleaning (when the time comes).

The vet had told me she had some plaque buildup last time i was there.

Also, what is that type of rabies shot that is better (3 year one).
she is going in on Thursday for her annual.

lol.. I have a brush for Zoey but the most I can get out of her is her rubbing her face on it.. so when she does that I try to sneak a few teeth in there. I know if I hold her down and try to brush her teeth there is no way she would let me.

I think now they're giving the 1 year Rabies shot.. to be safe make sure its "PureVax" as this kind is less likely to cause cancer at the injection site.

I started brushing Oreo's teeth just after I got him. I started with my finger, and then moved up the finger brush. I now brush his teeth with a baby toothbrush. It's funny, I think the only reason why he actually lets me do it, is because he knows he gets a treat after for being such a good boy. He sits on my lap and lets me brush.

I like brushing my cats teeth. Isabel just loves to be groomed and taken care of... but Sarah is different... She hated having her teeth brush and used to wiggle all over the place. I use a baby toothbrush with my cats. For her, I made it a game and sort of taunted her with the toothbrush as a toy... she would take to trying to bite it and when she did I would wiggle the toothbrush around. We did that for the longest time and she got used to how it felt. Then, later I started holding her properly and brushing her teeth as long as she would let me. It took ages but now I can give her a decent cleaning and she doesn't mind too much. I also think the key is brushing their teeth often, at least every two days.

I have 2 cats, ages 8 and 3. They've never had their teeth brushed. The older one just went in for a cleaning, and I'd HATE to do it again because she was really traumatized by the whole experience. However, I know she would never allow me to brush her teeth. If I even put my hand on her in a way that she thinks she might be restrained, she freaks out. She also tweaks when I pick her up.

Is there any product I could use that might help keep her teeth clean? Is it possible to get older cats used to having their teeth brushed? How often should it be done?

What's the best position to hold a cat in for tooth brushing?

In REGARD TO RABIES SHOTS - THAT DEPENDS ON THE STATE. HERE IN NJ AFTER THE KITTEN/INITIAL SHOT WE ONLY NEED A BOOSTER EVERY 3 YRS. aLSO ASK ABOUT WHETHER SHE NEEDS TO HAVE DISTEMPER BOOSTER WHICH MOST OF THE TIME (DEPENDING ON YOUR VET) IS DONE ANNUALLY.

GOOD LUCK!
