I've been feeding kitten wet food for breakfast at 8, lunch at 2 and supper at 9, with dry food in his bowl when I put him to bed at 11 and some for grazing during the day. I know that kittens need to eat often, and try to keep kibble in his bowl-but Matt keeps stealing it(he can open the bathroom door if someone forgets to lock it, and he knows there's food in there)

Are these feedings often enough for a 12-13 week old kitten if I don't refill the daytime kibble after Matt steals it? the big one's getting fat off of the kitten food. I could feed more often if he needs it, I just need to know what's best for him to thrive on

I fed Tumbles wet food at 6AM, Noon, 6PM, and bedtime when he was about that age.  He got dry food whenever he wanted, but usually about halfway between his feedings.  He didn't get anything overnight as we don't leave food out for our kitties.  The serving of wet food at bedtime held him over.  At the time, I had an older kitty who liked to eat dry food about every two hours between wet food servings, so that's when I offered dry food to Tumbles.  I would fill up his bowl in the morning and when he was finished eating, I'd put it in the cabinet to keep the other kitties out of it.

Maybe I'll try a variation on that....Pick his dry bowl up except when I put him in the bathroom.

I'm still putting him in 'his room' when we go out and when we go to bed, because I don't want him to get into small toys and choke while I'm not looking. Though he and Matt are getting along great, I'm going to need storage solutions for the LEGO & army men before he's allowed to roam the house unsupervised. He's got litter, food, water toys, bed and a ball track in there.....but he gets lonely I think, because he cries around 2am

Mine get 4 meals through the day and zero kibble (because of it's health implications).  There's more nutrition in wet food - and again, far more in raw - than in kibble.  So you could quite nutritiously and healthily do away with the kibble, especially as it sounds like you are around to be 'asked' for food...and can give a bit more wet on demand if needed.

(My big boy was a kibble eater, and so yes, we'd have a kibble raiding monster too if any were in the house...the first week I did leave kibble for our new kitten to ensure she didn't have an abrupt food transition, and sure enough, big boy was sneaking into her room to raid the bowl - meanwhile she completely disdained it!)

I had Matt almost completely switched before we got the kitten, too. the only kibble he was getting was when I put him to bed. He used to wake us up in the middle of the night, so I trained him to go to the basement with a snack at bed time. I have him on a diet, since he gains weight easily...so eating the baby's kibble is not helping his waistline lol!

Midnight eatseverything I give him- when I brought him in from outside, he as 1.1lbs on August 15th. Now he's 2.6lbs and a little taller too......even has a round little belly now, and I can't see his bones anymore <3 He goes frantic at meal times, but then he did outside, too. The first time I ever fed the outside kittens, Midnight grabbed the can and walked off with it in his teeth. Any kitten who came close to him got clawed in the head! I had to go get more food for the rest of the litter, and it took 3 cans to feed them all.

This is him, in late July-before I could get close enough to touch him. This was his first feeding, where he stole the whole can and wouldn't let go until it was empty. He's the runt, and we noticed over the time we watched that he was often having to fight for food. He's also the only one out of 5 kittens who tamed enough to be caught and brought in. The others stopped coming round.

When I got Bagel (around 10? weeks old) I fed him 4, 5 meals a day. Lox was eating 3 meals of raw prior to him coming. I ended up having to adjust Lox's feeding so it'll match Bagel's...

Now I feed both of them 3 times a day, but Bagel will eat 2-3 ounces of raw per meal. Occasionally I'll give Bagel a snack of non-hydrated freeze-dried raw while Lox gets her bone-in/gizzards. That way Lox is focused on chewing/crunching while Bagel eats his freeze-dried mini meal.

Oh, Mattsmum, that picture is just so sad/funny/sweet!!!  Bless you for the rescues and feedings.  I guess because of his early experience of food scarcity, he will always be slightly anxious that food is available - good thing he has a great home with you, where the food just keeps rolling out and he doesnt have to worry, be anxious, or fight for food.
