A friend is fostering a beautiful white momma cat who has been diagnosed with indolent ulcers. She has them circling her neck where a collar would be. She has been given a shot of Depo and has been on antibiotics. Unfortunately, whenever they start to heal, she scratches them off.

Where they are located, it's impossible to use a collar. Any ideas on how to get her to leave them alone?

She is still nursing two kittens. Any help appreciated ;)

HMMM, that is a tough one, for sure. Because IF you cover her neck with a tube sock or bandage of some sort then the air won't get at the ulcer's for healing either. Plus, she would likely scratch to get the "makeshift" bandage off. What does the vet suggest? I guess I would keep her on the Pred., and see if there is a safe (for kittens too) topical medication to soothe and help with healing and any itchng. What about soft paws for her back claws or keeping them trimmed very short. Wish I had a better answer. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for this momma cat. :rub:

When Bugsy was having a problem with seasonal allergy itching, Carolina used Neo-Predef (a powder?) on the wounds - they would heal quickly, so he didn't keep scratching the scabs off.

She's also using Dermoscent Essential 6 - it's a mega dose of omega 3s that are applied topically.

I don't know if either is available in Canada though - I hope so, because it'd be worth trying.
