Pick up batteries for our alarm system

pick up another knee brace

laundry
Is the knee brace for you? Everything OK?
When I was painting the house the other day and had to stay crouched down for an extended period, I didn't like the way both knees were feeling. I kept worrying that I was going to strain something. At this point I think I would like to have a brace on both knees before putting the second coat on, just as a preventative measure. I never did make it to buy one, hopefully today!

More vet visits tonight for Bootser and Ms. Pepe. (I don't know how Amber figures it out, but she never came out for dinner last night or anything. She always seems to know when she has a vet appt and she disappears. She didn't get there again last night.)

And that's it. Bootser needs blood work for thyroid and it will take forever til I get back home. I'm doing this one by myself as dear Richard is bowling early.
I hope all of these vet visits are going OK!

I think some errands this morning
Make up a batch of kale soup for the freezer
maybe pay some bills.

The heat and humidity are back to ridiculous levels, so how bad it gets is going to make a big difference in what I get done.

So far, so good. Thanks, Karen. BooBoo is pretty much back to normal with the paw. He's walking, he's jumping, he comes back to bed with us again. And Boo and I have even been Bouncing. He's ravenous when it comes to food, which the vet said is normal because of the allergy shots and such. He has bottomless paws
and a bottomless belly, so we try as hard as we can to fill them. I swear he would eat 24 hours a day. if I'd keep the food out. He gets a capsule of a joint juice compound with his breakfast. The capsule is large, so we empty it into his food and mix it well. The vet it tastes like chicken....and it does, kind of, as I tasted it (I don't give anything to the cats that I've not tasted first) and Boo gobbles it when he eats. I don't think he even knows it's there. His thyroid is fine, kidneys are fine, as per the blood work last night. Hopefully the boy won't have to go back now until around the end of December when he'll need another allergy shot.

Miss Amber, OTOH, didn't make it to the vet....again. The snot. She never even came out for her dinner yesterday. When we put Boo in the carrier, she was long gone. But when we were driving down the driveway, there she was....on top of the cat tree, looking out the living room window!  And when we got back home, she was wandering out in the kitchen, waiting for a snack. Brat. Brat. Brat.

She doesn't know it -- well, maybe she does, knowing her -- but if we can catch her tonight? She's going to the vet with Aunt Bootser and Ms. Pepe!

It's difficult having four geriatric cats. They always need something.

I have a meeting this afternoon at work, then it's waiting until 4:00 to go home (Is it 4:00 yet???)

We have to run errands tonight as Rick is working some OT tomorrow morning, so Target, bank, grocery store, mall (We also have to go to CVS to pick up an arthritis prescription for Bootser....CVS is the only pharmacy in town that carries this prescription in a strength low enough for cats. I don't remember the name of the drug off the top of my head. Bootser seems to be developing some arthritis, which is natural in a kitty who's over 20 years old; she turned 20 in July. More importantly, this drug may act as a sedative during the night so maybe, just maybe, she'll stop screaming at 3:00 in the morning. I'm desperate enough to try it.)

Try to finish some laundry, if we get home from running errands early enough

You mean Amber Louise? Yeah, she's one sneaky little girl. She did that the last time we were supposed to take her to the vet, too. I called from work (FROM WORK! SO SHE WOULDN'T KNOW!!) and made the appt to take her in. Come the day of the appt and she was no where to be found. She didn't come out for breakfast that morning. She didn't come out for dinner that night. She was gone. We looked all over the house and couldn't find her anywhere. Rick got disgusted, put BooBoo in the carrier and left the house. He wasn't even down to the bottom of the driveway....I walked into the living room and Amber was in the front window, looking out at Rick leaving. She looked over at me, said, "Gotcha!" and stalked into the bedroom. Brat.

She hasn't been to the vet in years. We can never find her. And the last time I put her into a pet carrier? I wore the fruits of that labor. My arms, hands, chest, neck, and stomach had huge scratches that took forever to heal. I refuse to even deal with her for vet appts. That's Rick's department now.

And to bring the vet to the house? She would simply disappear anyway; we'd never find her. There's a reason she's called The Phantom Kitty. We've had that girl for going on 11 years now. And only my sister and BIL and one of my GFs and her husband have ever seen her in that time. Even our son has only seen her once.....and that was when I first brought her home as a wee kitten. That's been it. People ask, "Are you sure you really have her?" But yeah, she's here. Good luck finding her. But she's here.

Oh, yes, I remember that pleasure!  Life with pensioner cats. My 21 year old had a miawl you could hear out in the busy street outside my first floor apartment with all the windows closed!  She carried on all night if she got herself in a different room to me and couldn't figure her way back to the bedroom. I'd have to get up and go get her or she'd just keep going.

Went to visit my mum.

Spent the afternoon with my mum 'sorting'  2 huge tins of buttons out!  Ones to keep, ones not to keep.... Success - she parted with nearly half.

Looked through a couple of boxes of shoes and boot to find ones I don't wear any more so I can give them to charity. Managed to find 4 pairs (that's good for me).

It's official.....I am sick with a summer/fall cold. Stuffy/runny nose, sore throat, the whole bit. I am not amused. Ended up coming home from work on Friday around noon or so. And I went straight to bed. I was so tired and the bed called me. Gave the cats a bit of lunch, stripped down, hit the bed, and, even though I didn't get much in the way of sleep, just resting helped.

My three things......

Rick got up to go into work this morning. I'm awake, so am doing some tomatoes again today. They're in the oven and since I had enough tomatoes for two big trays, I'm using the Convection cycle in the oven. Haven't used Convection on tomatoes yet; they've been in for about 30 minutes and are roasting nicely. Another 30 minutes or so and they might be finished.

I know I should shop because I don't feel well, but --

There's a neat kitchen-type store in the area and they're offering 15% off everything today. When Rick gets home this morning, we're going there as I could use some new paring knives (I love Rada paring knives -- they slice beautifully and they're made in the US). I think Rick accidentally put my knives in the dishwasher, something I never do with knives and they lost their edge. I don't know the first thing about sharpening knives, so off to the store. And 15% is 15%, so I'm going.

I love office supply stores. Our Staples in town shut down last year, but a local store opened up close by right around the same time. They recently moved in to a larger building and that building is right across the street from the kitchen store, so we're going there, too. I need printer ink and some new pens. (I'm a bit of a pen addict.) And I just enjoy perusing office supply stores!

Other than that, it's just standard stuff: vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the bathroom this afternoon.

If it's the last thing I get done today, the vegetable freezer is going to be defrosted and cleaned out. I know, the smart thing would have been done to do it back at the beginning of the summer...and that was our original plan. But well, it's being done today. After my treadmill walk this morning, I started pulling out ice chests and trays. I got a lot of it in the meat freezer first, then filled the ice chests. I have two large pots of hot water in the freezer now. Hopefully it won't take too long til I can get some of the worst of the ice out of there. Then all I have to do is wipe it down, plug it back in and fill it back up.......with some organization, I hope. (Rick is still in bed and I'm hoping I can get it all done while he's at church.)

Change the bed sheets. I'm putting flannel sheets on the bed this morning. It's time. We were in the mid-40s last night and we were both chilly. Evidently the cats were cold, too, because I awakened around 1:00 this morning and all of them were in bed with us. I counted seven heads.

I did get the house cleaned yesterday morning while Rick was working, so today it's finishing up a couple loads of laundry. And while Rick is outside painting house trim, I'm going to mow the back yard. It's been so dry the grass hasn't been growing that much, so we really haven't had to mow.

ETA: Check cleaning the freezer off....done! I went back downstairs and the ice from the sides of the freezer had already slid to the bottom. Got it all cleaned up, plugged it back in, filled it back up. Done.

My new third thing: Making a big pot of vegetable soup. Thawing some ground beef as I type.

Grab a few groceries tonight after work

Scoop the litter boxes (I didn't do it yesterday at all, so I'm sure they need scooping big time)

I'm hoping that I remember to watch the season premiere of Bones tonight and hoping that I won't fall asleep midway through (I'd also like to check out Sleepy Hollow because The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was always one of my favorite books as a child)

Found my self offering the use of my spare room to a fellow volunteer who needs a place to stay for a few nights. My little adventure: they hardly speak any English and I speak even less French. Thankfully Mouse is a sociable little cat and is happy as long as any house guest gives him plenty of attention.

Spent about 2 hours clearing 'stuff' out of the spare room so said person could stay in there reasonably comfortably. (Why is it I am now preoccupied with the thought at even more laundry than ever?)

Had a phone call with my mum about buttons and how she's worried the spare buttons for a coat she's got might have been cleared out when we went through them all on Friday...

Did a bit of vacuuming in the apartment.

Took a lamp down to a local charity shop as a donation  (I bought a replacement, more cat - proof one last week - Mouse kept trying to chew the paper shade and knocking the lamp over in the process).

Met a friend for a quick coffee over lunch time.
