Hi everyone,

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?  My cat Posie has red bumps on the edges of her ears; I just noticed them yesterday and I have noticed that she has been scratching them a lot lately.  She is just coming off a 2 week run of Clavamox for a UTI; I don't know if these bumps could possibly be a side effect from the meds?  Also, I believe stress is a contributing factor to the UTI and it very well may be contributing to this too.

I have attached a few pics so hopefully you can see what I am describing.  She is strictly indoors, no other pets, and I have her on Revolution monthly because we have a lot of mosquitos where we live.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice!

Hmmm...that doesn't look very good.  It could be a reaction from the Clavamox, but that's not a normal reaction.  Usually cats get upset tummies.  It could be flea bites, but it could also be something like Ringworm that she picked up at the vet.  However, as you say, it could be stress induced, too.  Do you run anything like Feliway diffusers in your house?  If not, you might want to invest in some and start running them 24/7 to help reduce stress.  Have you changed litter recently or food?  She could be developing an allergy to that, too.  I think that you should probably take her back to the vet to have the spots looked at and to rule out anything like ringworm.

Thanks stephanietx,

I just came from the vet and they were not sure what these bumps are; Posie gets so stressed out at the vet that she will not let anyone touch her.  Based on what she could see, she said it could be an allergic reaction or stress.  She prescribed Prednisolone, 1 tablet a day for 4 days and 1/2 tablet for 8 days.  She is also looking into getting Prozac for her to ease the anxiety/stress.

I haven't changed anything in the past 3 weeks; prior to that, I had been trying to get her to eat different brands of wet food b/c she only eats Wellness Chicken & Turkey.  I am wondering if this could have affected her, although that has been a few weeks ago.

I am hoping the meds will clear this up. Thanks for your reply!

I hope the meds help her.  For stress relief, you might try Feliway (this is a lifesaver in my house!) or one of the blends from Spirit Essences.  They have one called Peacemaker that's good.  They also have one called Stress Stopper.  You can add the drops to water, mix into food, rub on the kitty's body, or spray into the air.  We use Peacemaker a lot in my house!  LOL

Thanks stephanietx.  I hope the meds are going to help too.  I do have 2 Feliway diffusers plugged in, and I am going to check out more of the Spirit Essences.  I did order the Stress Stopper and tried it for a few weeks; maybe I just didn't give it long enough.  I think I am going to try it again.  I had not heard of the Peacemaker so I will look into it.  Lord knows we could use the Peacemaker in my house also!
