I'm trying to think of names for the new kittens that have been born in the colony of strays I feed. There is now only one adult female left to TNR. (She refuses to enter the trap but will let me pet her a little bit, so I'm hoping that I can grab her soon.)

I want to name all the kittens, I keep a little note book with a photo and details such as when they were born, when they were TNRed etc so I can keep track of them all, so giving them a name helps me remember who is who.

So far I've named the tabby kittens Freya, Heidi, Button and Smudge but I haven't been able to think of names for any of the black and white kittens.

There are three black and white kittens, 2 male and 1 female I think. Can anyone think of any good names for them?

Their father, also black and white, is called Junior. One of their mothers is called Robin and the other is called Tokiko.

My husband was in the Navy for 20 years, so most of our cats are named for people in the military.

Halsey - named for William "Bull" Halsey, admiral during WWII

Molly - after Molly Pitcher

Chester - after Chester A. Nimitz, another WWII admiral

Josephine - after the USS Josephine (and my sister, Jo)

Margaret - after Margaret Kline, the first female commandant of cadets at West Point

Schofield - after General David Schofield (Civil War hero).  My husband's dad was stationed at Wheeler AFB in Hawaii, on which is built Schofield Barracks.

Gracie and Teresa were given names based on their appearances. Gracie is gray and Teresa is a tortoiseshell (she started out as TC, which evolved into Teresa)

So maybe you can name them for Japanese heroes or leaders?

My niece has a pair of siblings that are named Smudge and Pudge.  Look online.  I went there in search of names for my latest kitty.  I have:

Jake: named for used to be called Jacob's Field in Cleveland

Shadow:  my feral who was always hiding in the shadows

Patches:  he looks like a patchwork quilt with all of his marbling and colors

Marvin:  Used to be Orange kitty.  I had a dream that he wanted me to call him Marvin

Stellar: He's all black and I first name him Stella for the children's book "Stella Luna", but  Stella turned out to be a he.  I loved the name and wanted something close.

I like to let the cat inspire me. I wait until the kittens' character starts to show and give him/her a name...

The 3 kittens I am taking care of now are called  Gebran,  Qays, and Cynthia .... Qays had a different name which suited him better but someone in the family got offended because it had religious association.

I love to use names of philosophers, writers, scientists, politicians... but the character comes first.

Hi,thanks for all the ideas. I've decided to call the brother and sister Lizzie and Henry, after my grandparents who were themselves named after English kings and queens. I really liked Ondine's suggestion of naming them after Japanese heroes, but all the best samurai were called things like Tokugawa Eayasu or Oda Nobunaga so I decided to call the last kitten......Hiro.

I'll post some pictures of them all soon.

Congratulations on only having one adult female left to TNR!  That must be a huge relief for you.  Good luck on naming the kittens.  I am partial to food and beverage related names myself.
