Hello all,

So for the past week, my kitty Charles was having trouble with his left eye. This eye is always kind of goopy (he has feline herpes), but the third eyelid was starting to protrude a little bit and was a little bit red, so I took him to the vet on Friday and she confirmed a mild case of conjunctivitis. She perscibed Tobramycin eye drops. I've been giving him the drop for 2 days now (3x a day...its Sunday now), but his eye is still squinty and the third eyelid is still slightly visible. There's maybe a very slight improvement as far as the redness but nothing major. The vet said to call if his eye wasn't showing improvement by early in the week. I'm probably just impatient to see a change, but just wondering if anyone has experience with cats with herpes conjunctivitis and how many days after starting treatment do you start to notice a change.

I should also mention that he'es getting about 1,500mg of lysine daily. I usually give him 1,000mg, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to up the dose during this flare-up. I'm not sure its having an effect though. He's also eating normally and using the litter box normally.

Thanks!

Edit: I just took a picture of how it currently looks, just to provide a visual. :)

I would give it a few more days.  If he's still squinty on Wednesday, I'd call the vet.

I've had to deal with conjunctivitis with two kittens (Not so sure about the herpes part). Takes about 7 days to notice a difference, I'm instructed to do eye drops 10 days.

Thanks, guys! I'm keeping up with the eyedrops 3x a day. It doesn't appear to be getting any worse, so I'm here's hoping it starts to show some improvement by Wednesday. *fingers crossed*

You might ask the vet for an eye lubricant.  Sometimes the drops will dry out the eye and the lubricant (it looks like a gel) helps.  We've always done drops and lubricant simultaneously.

Just wanted to update on my cat's situation! After using the antibacterial drops for a while (a couple weeks), his eye is improved but still red and not quite right. I have a vet appointment for tomorrow, but I was just curious as to if there's anything I should bring up with the vet, and what they would usually prescribe next for conjunctivitis when the antibacterial drops aren't clearing it up (ointment maybe? or is an oral antibiotic of some sort the norm?)

Thanks!
