Two days ago Bella had kittens and had o have a c-section yesterday to get the last kitten out. Today the two that made it and were doing great are deteriorating. Well one of them is. He's not eating and doesn't seem to want to move. He still cries and moans but won't suckle. Do I need to wait it out or do I need to step in and try to syringe feed him til he gets stronger. Bella still cares for him and cleans him and answers his cries so I don't know if I need to help or not,

You must step in, I think. They detoriate quickly.  A healthy kitten can survive quite long, but not a kitten who seems to have come into difficulties.

continuing soon

When they seem to fade, it is often they got low blood sugar contend.

The remedy here is easy: smear a little wet dextrose (=glucose sugar) or honey or white caro syrup on their gum.   Glucose from these goes quickly into blood already from the mouth...And the get energy anew.

Make sure he is warm, even if mom still helps it.  Weak kittens often lose warmth.

You can perhaps carry it at your chest some time...   You can massage it by rubbing it, too.

continuing soon

Last but not least.  He may have become dehydrated, being dehydrated accelerates him losing forces.

So, begin with giving him water, or even better, homemade pedialyte.  Perhaps with a dropper.

a basic receipt for a nicely working homemade pedialyte is:

1,5 soupspoon (15-18g) dextrose (=glucose sugar) or honey or white caro syrup

1 teaspoon (3g) kitchen salt

a little bicarbonate (=baking soda) if you have

1 litre water,

boil up and stir, cool down to body temp use.

Works nicely with humans and with cats...

Good luck!

I have him 3cc of kmr and he took it nicely. He still has a strong cry and Bella took him the moment he had taken the last syringe of milk. Do I still need to use honey? Or will he be ok for a few hours? I turned on a heater for him and am keeping a close eye on him to see if he gets any worse. Since the milk he seems to have gained a little more strength. I have real pediatlyte I had bought for my daughter but never used can I give him some of that?

I understand you gave him some honey?  good, it cant harm.  now when he has perked up, and ate some kmr, he probably doesnt need more honey.   The kmr contains also some glucose, I guess.

But have the honey handy.

When giving kmr, you know on tummy, head up, like they take from mommy.  Not too  much fluid  if they are weak, so he doenst get reflux and get kmr into lungs...

Good you have a heater on, but also here a word of warning: getting chilled is the big enemey, especielly if they are a little weak.

But too much warmth is dangerous too...

Its like the  Scylla and Charybdis of Homeros, dangers here, dangers there, you must sail exactly in the middle...   Good intuition, and being there is important.

Good luck!

I gave him just a tiny bit of honey with the kmr about 30 min ago. His cries are louder and he is moving much more. I do know about on the tummy. I looked up online how much to give in each feeding and as I do not have a kitten bottle but do have some 1 cc syringes left from some meds for my cat a long time ago I filled it with a few drops of honey and 1 cc at a time and put a drop on his tongue and he suckled at the rest so I steadily and slowly gave him some more. As for the heater i have it set to intermittent setting so it goes on and off about every 15-20 min. He is still with his litter mate and Bella is hiding them between the wall and the couch and I pointed the heater down the back of it and moved the couch forward about two feet to give her space. Have I done anything wrong? Or not done something? Your help has been great. Do I need to give pedialyte ?

You seem to have done everything excellently, like a pro!

This with pedialyte here and now,  Im a little unsure myself. If you suspect she is dehydrated, yes. The problem is, getting pedialyte, there is perhaps not so much place in the little tummy for kmr, which is what she really needs...

So pedialyte is excellent to give them force back to manage and eat kmr, but once she eats kmr, it is more important than pedialyte.

Perhaps a compromise and have some extra water OR pedialyte, with the kmr...

Anyway, the worst crisis seems to be over.  There are still dangers, but the immediate crisis is over.

Good luck!
