We found a 3-4 week old kitten on Tuesday. We started giving him powdered KMR. I tried to mix canned food in with it but he can't eat it yet. He was having a hard time just lapping up the formula. He has peed lot's of times in the litter box. But only pooped once on Thursday afternoon (on his own without stimulation in litter box). He has not pooped since then and it's now Sunday. Is this normal? Is there anything I should be doing? I have been rubbing his butt with a washcloth and sometimes that will make him pee a little but no luck with poop. Should I give him baby food since the kitten canned food isn't thin enough for him to lap up even when mixed with water or mostly formula? Would that help since he would be having more than just milk and getting actual food? He seems to be acting normal otherwise. Is it ok that he hasn't pooped? Is this normal or something to be concerned about? Since he has peed and pooped once on his own does this mean that he wouldn't need stimulation to poop? Thanks in advance.

You can try with baby food too if you wish.  Gerber stage 1, chicken or turkey, is the thing they say, our forumites who lives in the USA.

You can dilute the KMR with more water. It helps often against the constipation which some kittens can get.   Begin with twice as much water as now.  If it helps, try later on to find his individual correct dose.

And vary the stimulation you are already doing... Better too much than too little of this stimulation.

www.kitten-rescue.com has some examples of different methods.

Another trick you can try with is add a little crushed plain canned pumpkin.  Helps both against constipation and some types of diarrhea.  This kitten seems to be big enough for it (Im not sure if the pumpkin is OK for baby kittens).

good luck!

I just wanted to say thank you! I gave him some canned pumpkin and he pooped within the hour and then more later on. I picked up some cans of Royal Canin baby cat wet food and that is thin enough when I mix it with the KMR that he can lap it up.

Yay!   Glad to hear the canned pumpkin did the trick and he is now eating the canned Babycat with KMR.   Sounds like he is doing fine!
