Which kitten vomiting?

Twice in the past week I've found that one of the kittens has vomited.

Other than catching in the act, is there any way to tell which one? No behavioral changes.

Unless you see some change in behavior, or set up a kitty cam, guess you'll need to catch one of them in the act.  I can't tell you how many times I've jumped out of bed to see who's hacking away over the years.  It's exhausting!  BUT, you gotta do what you gotta do

In your case, since you have more than one kitty, it's possible that more than one kitty threw up.  Are these hairballs, or food, or what?

I've got a theory. In each case I saw one treat-sized lump in the middle. Since the new kitten has only had this brand of treat twice, and there are two times I found the vomit, it is likely her. So I won't give her this brand of treat anymore.

I've finally brought down all barriers and moved litter boxes to the permanent location, so separating would be hard right now - I would do it if I were worried.

I don't know if I need to start a new thread, but I caught her in the act.

About 3 hours after eating the 4 month old ginger girl vomited her breakfast. She doesn't look distressed. Doesn't act in any unusual way when I handle her.

Let's see, anything else about her. Only good stuff, she is a good drinker, she is very active. I don't know. I think this is the third time in a week, last time was two days ago.

I don't know what to do.

Ok, now that you know which kitten is doing it, we need to figure out the why.  First off, I think it's probably what you are feeding her, as you might have already guessed.  Stopping the treat didn't do it, so now we need to analysis the rest of what she is eating.  Exactly what do you feed her...kibble, wet?  What brand and flavor?  Many cats cannot tolerate certain proteins, and particularly, certain grains in kibble.  Since you have more than one cat, you may have to end up changing both cats' diet, just so the baby doesn't eat the other's food, IF it turns out she has a food intolerance.

So, come back with what you are feeding and we'll start there.

Since she has been here, I gradually moved her over from her diet of Science Diet (dry) to Wellness Kitten food (wet) - with free feeding on Hills Ideal Balance Kitten food.

I don't know if she free feeds, so let's just say it is Wellness. I could ask what she was fed while being fostered.

Since she didn't seem distressed and Artie was charging her up, I gave her a small amount of human grade premium tuna. Just so she would have some pure protein in her for now.

Hmmm...both of those are grain free, so that's good.  They both share the same main ingredient, which is chicken.  The problem here is I'm just not sure there are too many makers of grain free kitten food that don't have chicken in them (IF she's got a problem with chicken).  Just a thought, though...does Wellness Kitten have more than one type of food?  If you are feeding more than one type, does the vomiting occur just after one type?  Since she doesn't get sick after EVERY meal, maybe it's just after one particular type of food?  If that's feasible, than I would omit that food if you can narrow it down (may be a moot point)

Unless someone comes on here soon with more suggestions, I would try omitting the kibble first and see what happens.  Just increase her canned food to make sure she doesn't go hungry, since she is, after all, a growing kitten
.  If that doesn't do any good, and no one else comes on here, then maybe it will be time to start up a new thread that will attract the attention of others who know more than I do about this sort of thing
 .

Of course, a discussion with your Vet might be in order too, as this is not really normal.

Once I got her switched over I fed wellness kitten formula (they only have one "flavor" for kittens) in the morning and evening, leaving Ideal Balance out all the time.

For the moment I will give her wet Science Diet for Kittens (many flavors) and see what happens. So far she has only vomited her morning meal. If a problem continues, then I will take her to the vet. She is fine in all other ways (to the eye). Playing like crazy until she is out of breath.

I will start with a non-chicken Science diet (of course we have that whole switching foods thing going on then).

So, let me get this straight.  You are only feeding her one thing, and she is only throwing up after one meal?  She is not getting any kibble during the night?  AND she is only throwing up after breakfast?  And not every day?  Does she have any diarrhea too.

OK, new question.  What are her meal times.  And now that she is not getting any kibble or treats at all, what does the vomit look like?  (and I would, personally, NOT switch over to the Science Diet kitten food, because it's full of grains
).  Since she isn't throwing up all meals, just breakfast, and not even every day, I'm thinking something else is the cause.

Ginger is sooo young and at four months of age, vomiting could bring her down quickly. As Sally mentioned, it could very well be the diet and I would not feed any Science Diet at all. You could start a thread in Nutrition to get some ideas on a better diet for your kitten. The vomiting could also be the beginnings of a blockage. Kittens get into many things and eat many things.... do you think
"ginger girl" has eaten anything she should have not? Another idea............. has she been dewormed??? If so, was it twice and two to three weeks apart? Definitely get her to the vet asap if the vomiting after the one meal continues or becomes more frequent. MEGA VIBES for you and your kitten. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
