Hello everyone!l!

My uncle adopted a cat a few months ago, she was pregnant when he got her and only found out when her tummy started to get big. She is normal size cat, quiet skinny. But we gave her everything we could so she is healthy and happy.
She gave birth 5 days ago to 7 kittens, 2 didnt make it (still born) :( very sad. But the remaining 5 looks pretty healthy.
She started eating right away after she gave birth. And keep eating alots and look very healthy, everything seems very normal.
Until this morning, she has stopped eating. (-
Her last meal was last night around 11pm. And i am starting to get worry since she has to bhrse her kitten so she need extra strength. It's been almost 24 hours that she eat nothing. Plzzz help. !!

Can you or your uncle get her to a vet for a check-up? It is worrisome that she stopped eating. There could be complications from her giving birth that are not visible especially since two were stillborn.

I agree, this is emergency, she needs to vet ASAP!   Begin with phoning vet if you wish, but count on you must rush her in.

You must also plan on how to care for the kittens. Get kmr (kitten milk replacement) or goat milk,  dropper / bottle with naps, etc...  Get also a scale measuring in grammes, so you know how they develop, they shall gain every day preferably at least 10grammes...

Get home dextrose sugar (=glucose sugar), or at least honey. Useful in many emergencies.

Does mom drinks water?  Give her with a spoon / dropper at least...  NOT instead for the vet, but while waiting for the vet...  You dont want her to be dehydrated too.

Continue to report and questions!

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the replies!
We do ofcourse will take her to the vet. But it is a long weekend here in Vancouver. All vet are close until Tues and i cant get any help until then. She looks very normal and doesnt seem to be in pain at all. I am wondering if lost of appetite is normal after birth. in the mean time while waiting till tues is there anything i can do to help. I have heard of "force feed" from some other website while doing my research. Is it a way to help?

They often lose appetite immediately after the delivery, because they had eaten the placentas, which are high nutritious by themselves.  But several days later?  A lactating mom?  Not good.

Yes, force feeding is your next bet.  Its not good if she say swallowed some plastic or gum, and has stop in intestines, but as long it is "just" lost appetite, force feeding may do the trick.

Have her on stomach, head up.  Perhaps one holding her gentle, the other giving food and fluids.

With a little luck, she will eat from your fingers or from a spoon.  Essentially, it may be enough if you do some fuss around her.

If not, you must use a bottle or a dropper.   You can mix in canned wet food with extra water and use it.

EDIT  And or you can give her  kmr, the same you would give her kittens.

continue soon.

If necessary, if she loses forces, you can smear some dextrose or honey on her gum, it gives immediate energy.

Basic pedialyte:

1,5 soup spoon (15-18 grammes) of dextrose or honey

1 tea spoon (3 grammes) of kitchen salt. If you have different kitchen salts, use the so called minerale. but common kitchen salt is ok

1 litre water, boil up cool down to body temp.  Use by dropper.

Useful for cats and humans alike, not least when they have heavy diarrhea or throwing up fits.

Always when dehydration is a real danger.

Good luck!

Thanks so much! This is extremely helpful.
I will try to get her to eat and follow the steps provided. Hopefully she will be ok! Especially she will need to stay healthy for the up coming "spay" surgery once all the kitten are weaned.
we will try our best. She is the sweetest kitty ever.

Also, i am suspecting there might be another kitten left inside of her....:((( that would be very bad new.
Again thanks for the help!

there are a couple of variations, some needing vet asap, some you may await.

There happens they do have two different litters simultaneously, and deliver the second typically three weeks afterwards, without problems.  Not common, but not unique either among moggies.  (breeders do have full controll over matings, so it doesnt happens with breeders).

One of our ex neighbours has such a kitten from the second litter.

Another scenario is, the first borne are premature and soon dying off, and she carry on some who are delivered in their own time, healthy.  This is NOT the case with you, as the kittens seems full borne.

But a kitten not born together with its siblings, probably dead - not good. Not good.  Sometimes the dead kitten get capsled in, without bad consequences for mom.  But if it instead is decayed - not good.

Anyway, here you do have another reason to try and see a vet asap.  And no ambulating vet on tuesday afternoon at your local pet shop, but a real and good vet clinic with surgery, x-ray and all.

Good luck!

I got update on mama kitty. She ate this morning finally after about 30 hours... Yeah!
But something's weird here. She has been on wet and raw diet since a week before birth. We figure it is better for her so we switched from the dry food to the wet/raw. And now even though she is eating again she refuse the wet food, only eating the dry food. Is there a change in appetite?????

Good she eats again.  Hopefully the crisis is over, but keep watch, and be prepared to go to a vet just to be sure.

As always, its better to err for being extra cautious, than to be sorry because you neglected although you knew it was a potentially very dangerous situation.

Funny with this change of taste.  Let her eat what she wants to eat, as long as she eats it.   You dont afford to experiment wildly here.

Lets hope she eats the dry to of high quality dry, and kitten type or equivalent.

But in the long run, try to go on with wet and or raw.   (although remember, to have raw you must also know what you are doing. If you dont know or care to read on, stick to the wet, it is OK anyway).

Good luck!
