Hi,

My one year cat has had a rodent ulcer for over a month. He cannot take steroids due to cardiomyopathy. It started on the bottom lip, then moved to the top lip. It all began after bringing a new kitten home. I have been giving Atopica, I changed to Blue Buffalo Limited Ingredient turkey diet, changed to stainless steel bowls, I am giving spring water. I purchased a Feliway diffuser. I dont know what else I could do as I have no experience with rodent ulcers. Please let me know your experience and advice.

Thanks

Karen

Have you discussed adding L-lysine to his diet with you vet?  From what I understand, these may be caused by allergies.  Boosting his immune system might help him fight them off.

Someone with more expertise in cat health than I do may have other suggestions.  I hope he feels better soon.

I have seen several people adding this to their food. My vet has him taking Atopica, an immunosuppressant. I dont know if I can give both Atopica and L lysine.

Thanks

Oh, I didn't realize about the Atopica.  What research I did on rodent ulcers suggested allergies but I guess it can also be caused by an autoimmune disorder, too.

I'm sorry - the L-lysine was all I could think of.
