So I have a post of a cat that wasn't eating.. I had her blood work done and these were the results. I, and this website, don't think much to any of my vets so I thought I would post it here incase anyone has any observations. He said it was normal(the vet). Also is any of this information I should be taking interest in as I will be starting raw feeding soon?

Its a female spayed 1 yr old underweight 7.5lb cat.

Okay ill type it and also post the pictures of it- just incase one or the other is clearer.. I don't understand any of it anyways lol

Everything looks great, with the exception of one little thing, which is almost within normal levels.

Almost at the bottom of the report, where it's showing RDW, there is an "H" after the 17.4.  That means that reading is higher than the "normal", and the normal range is 13.0 to 17.0, so it's not that much higher.  None of the other values have either an "H" (for high) or an "L" (for low) next to them, which means they are within the normal range.  That's what you are shooting for

Here is a website that tells you what most of these things mean, in case you are interested:  http://airparkanimal.com/frorms/Understanding Your Pets Testing.pdf

Now, once you start feeding raw, the BUN will probably start reading at the high end of normal.  That's normal for cats eating raw.

Thankyou for looking it over for me.. the link provided states;

RDW (red cell distribution width)—increases in this objective measure of variability of RBC size

indicates increased variability in size that can aid the veterinarian in identifying the cause of an

RBC problem

and

RBC (red blood cell count), HCT (hematocrit) and HGB (hemoglobin)—increases in these

parameters may support dehydration or a disease of increased production of RBCs; decreases

indicate anemia and decreased oxygen-carrying capability of the blood

I am not really sure what to make of that.

Thanks for letting me know about the BUN too. :)

The problem is, you can't just look at one value to get a picture.  That's why it takes so many years to get a medical degree
.  Now I'm guessing if the MCV was out of whack too, then the RDW figure would be helpful for the Vet to try to figure out the problem
. But because all others numbers are in alignment, that's what makes me say it looks good . If the next time you get her blood drawn this figure is any higher, then I would definitely discuss it further with the Vet, just to feel more comfortable.
