Matt's health went downhill fast, he's going to the vet this afternoon. but in the meantime, his saliva is very think and he shows signs of dehydration. He tolerates 3ml of shringe offered water in one sitting. How often should I offer his water to rehydrate him/ stop him from dehydrating further until he goes in?

Might want to call the vet and ask. I would try to give him as much as he will tolerate. You might also want to bring him into get Sub Q fluids at the vet. The vet can also give them to you to do at home.

I would try as much as he'll tolerate at least once an hour if possible.

I'll try that....I'm really, really  scared now....I think i may have killed Matt by saving the kitten.......I found this:

Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)

The disease associated with the FIP virus is actually caused by the body's immune response to the virus. The immune response assists the virus to spread throughout the body and cause damage. Researches think this virus is transmitted through bodily secretions such as feces or saliva, and contaminated objects such as dishes and litter boxes.

Two forms of the disease exist. The "wet"  form is characterized by fluid accumulation within a cat's abdomen or chest that results in laborious breathing. Other symptoms include listlessness, fever, and appetite and weight loss. Usually the cat lives only days or weeks after the initial signs appear.

I hope to GOD I'm not right.......

Oh hun, take a big, deep breath. :heart2: I'm posting from my phone, so don't have links, but FIP is not contagious. It is caused by a mutation of the corona virus in the specific cat.

I'm not up on your rescue kitty, but Matt may just have a regular cold or treatable, "regular" bacterial infection. :rub:

So sorry that you're dealing with sick kitties, I know how stressful that can be. As far as FIP, the coronavirus that is associated with FIP is quite common; only a few kitties possess certain genetics that cause FIP as a result of that infection.

Well, the vet put him on Omoxocillan for upper respritory infection and told me to come back in ten days if he's not better ....and the kitten's combo-test came back good :) I'm so glad that now I can worry about getting him better rather than worrying about what's wrong with him :) He took his first pill nicely(unlike the baby, who spit his dewormer back at the vet too many times to count
) and ate some of the fancy food they gave me.....in case I need to force-feed him mush from a shringe)

It's very, very, VERY common for a resident kitty to get an upper respiratory infection or urinary tract infection when a new kitty is brought home.  The stress triggers it.  Good for you for getting him to the vet quickly so that he can get started on meds.  Keep an eye on him and make sure he eats and drinks and he should be on the mend by the end of the weekend.  Can you tell if he's congested?  If you think he might be, you can steam him in the bathroom 2 or 3 times a day.
