I am a nervous wreck. We were away on vacation and Roscoe got sick, he was bought to the vet and had to have a catheter put in, they bypassed the blockage and , 2 days later, he pulled it out over night, so they had to recatherize him and took x rays. The vet removed on Tuesday afternoon 8 to 9 small stones the size of half a pebble. He was doing well, eating , and drinking etc. They took out the catheter Thursday morning, and if he urinated enough, he would go home that night. Needless to say, not enough came out, so they had to put the catheter back in. The vet says  there was mucus and he has seen this  before . At this point the cat is growling at the vet when ever he goes near his cage. We were on vacation when this happened and it was such a helpless feeling. The vet suggests we come in to visit him today. I do not know how they are going to peel me away from my furbaby. He is a 9 year old male. Has anyone ever been thru this? Any advice? Help!

I haven't been through this but I wanted to send you vibes for Roscoe.  Many of our members have had cats with this issue and should be along shortly to help with specific advice.

Just love on him and he'll feel better.

Many cats have gotten past blockages, so don't panic. The danger time is right now so he needs to be watched carefully as you are doing. Because of all the inflammation, he is at risk of becoming blocked again. Is he on a pain med like buprenex? Poor baby must be in discomfort.

Were the stones removed from his kidney? Kidney stones are more rare in cats than bladder stones. What kind of stones were they? Struvite or calcium oxalate? Depending on the type of stone we may be able to offer diet suggestions that may help prevent reoccurence. Many vibes for Roscoe and hugs for you.

I guess I was wrong the stones were removed from his bladder. We called the vet this morning and he said his urine is clear and yellow. He kept his catheter in overnight- he is a big boy- 17.4 pounds. The stones are the oxicali ????  I think it is called, not sure of the name this is all new to me. They took out the stones Tuesday. I guess maybe all the swelling made it hard for him to pee so they had to put a new catheter in last night. The vet said he is on pain medicine.

We just left the vets office from visiting Roscoe. He looks good, as soon as he saw me he was meowing. He was so happy, mommy was crying. The vet said his food needs to be changed . Roscoe was purring and feel asleep in my hand! The vet wants to keep him over the weekend bc it is a holiday weekend. : ( but I know it is for his own good. Please tell me this nightmare will be over soon and Riscoe will be back home soon!

Thank you so much for the link to the article. The vet is having a conference call today and is calling hills and royal canin up for a phone consultation on which food is better for him, royal canin s o moderate weight control or hills for urinary tract? I am hoping the food helps so this does not happen again. He never gets table food. He rather have his own food.
