It's been hot here, and he was laying around the last 2 days...I figured he was uncomfortable in the heat, since he still came running for food with his big kitty grin and lots of purrs.

Then last night he coughed. then we noticed he was breathing loud, like an old man. and his 3rd eyelid shows. And he didn't eat much  breakfast, I had to bring it to him. He's going to the vet at 4pm and I'm worried :(

I had an appointment already booked for the baby to get his shots...but I figured given the circumstances that can wait. I called and asked if I can bring Matt instead and they said yes

Vet thinks upper respitory infection, they put him on antibiotics I'm so happy(that's it's not fatal)

He even swallowed his first pill without complaint and ate a little of the fancy food they gave him

I know....it's been a scary 24 hours. vet says he's 5-7% dehydrated... ...I'm not sure how bad that is, but they said to keep up with the shringing him water until he's eating and drinking again. Plus I keep him on wet, so once he's eating agin I can water it down-he's used to that anyway, since I often do it on hot days or to warm up his food if I forgot to take it out of the fridge ahead of time for meals. for now I'm shringing a mix of vet food and water

If you can get your hands on some plain baby pedialyte, you can syringe some of that in him to help.

Do you know how to check for dehydration?  Just pinch the skin on the back of the neck.  If it stays up like a tent, then the cat is dehydrated.  If it snaps back down, hydration is adequate.

I did that before the vet.....it  snapping back down but didn't tent either. He's a bit better now, and eating too. I can get water into him via wet food now as well now  that he's at his food bowl(what a relief)...I add it the food before feeding, and he laps up the water while he eats
