I saved this abandoned kitten that was wrapped in a napkin and left on a driveway. She still had her umbilical cord and her eyes were closed.  Amazingly the owners thought she was a baby bird. They left  her under a tree hoping the mother would find it. Thank goodness the temp outside was almost 90. She was starving so I purchased a bottle and KMR. I did some quick research and found out how to care for her. After about 3 days her eyes are opened but cloudy. All her fur from the tair up to the neck is falling off. She is almost bald. Her skin is nice and pink. No ringworm is present. Now she has peach fuzz left.  She eats great like every 2 hours about 0.2 oz. I just weighed her and she is 7.3 ounces.  teeth are starting to come in and she likes to bite and suck on my thumb. I am guessing she is 2 weeks old at the most.  Are cloudy eyes common? Why is her fur falling out? How do I get her to stop biting me? She poops 2- 3 times a day and they are a little runny. Am I feeding her too much? Could she be allergic to KMR? HELP!  I am already so in love with her and if she dies I will feel I am to blame. I named her cupcake.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Thank you for saving this baby. :heart2: If you haven't already seen this site, I'm sure you'll find it very helpful: http://www.kitten-rescue.com.

She may very well have parasites, thus the runny poop. But at this point, with her hair falling out, the cloudy eyes, and the runny poop, this wee one really needs to see a vet. :rub:

Thanks for saving that poor little baby! I agree with LDG that you should get to a vet as soon as you can. Those symptoms are definitely not normal. I don't know what could be causing the hair loss. The cloudiness of the eyes sounds like ulcers, which could likely be caused by feline herpes virus. It would be good to get him checked out. Good luck!

I found out that I was feeding her too often. Her stools have now normalized and her eyes today are clear like a glass. The hair loss is still a mystery so I am changing her to goats milk for a possible allergy to KMR. I can't afford a vet. I was washing her with baby shampoo but have switched to just water for now. I am hoping this new treatment leads to a regrowth of her beautiful fur. Otherwise cupcake seems fine and purrs a lot. Thank you for your help.

Please continue with the KMR, if she was allergic to it her poop would be white.

Her fur loss is very likely due to malnourishment.

If  you feed her kmr and as she is eating solid food please get her on Royal Canin Babycat.

I have had countless rescues, kittens whose moms were homeless or feral and in dire need of help. Their fur is sparse and balding.

In a month you will see a huge turnaround of her fur, it will grow in healthy, soft and shiny.

You are doing an amazing job.  Too often, babies that young die not matter what we do, so you are doing great!  I can't explain the fur loss but it may be an allergy.  Fleas, maybe?  I'd look at that but also at your laundry detergent.

Has she been to the vet's?  This might be a good time to take her and let him give her a good once over.  He'll need to check our her eyes, too.  I don't have that much experience with babies that little.  Hopefully, someone who does will chime in.

Welcome to TSC!

Thank you all so much. Besides the hair loss she is happy and is starting to play. She seems to want to bite my thumb or suck on it. How do I teach her not to bite? What can I do about her need to suckle. I have had her 10 days already and I am very attached.

Update: Cupcake is almost 6 weeks. I still don't have money for a vet but I know she is healthy. I started mixing royal can in baby cat with kmr and I also put vitamin E oil on her skin. Within one week she regrew hair. It was a different color and is so amazingly soft. I showed her how to go potty in the litter box twice and now she is a pro. She also chewed the nipple off her bottle and swallowed it. I was very worried but all systems seem to be working fine. I then put kmr on my finger and slowly moved it closer to the saucer until she learned to lap it up. I then introduced solid food the same way. In one day she was weaned and litter trained. She doesn't sleep much. How much canned food should I give her? How do I wean her from kmr and when? I appreciate all the

As I was saying, I appreciate all the advise. You have helped me to save her. Everyone wants to know if she is a special breed. Everyone who sees her falls instantly in love with her. We have had many offers but after a month of only 2 hours of sleep a night...I am attached.

My 2 month old kitten likes to bite, and scratch feet, hands and arms. How do I stop her from attacking. She also does a cobra like action where she will bite or scratch a face. And when it comes to food, she hisses, growls and swats at anyone who comes near her. Please help me to make her a loving kitty.

She looks like a dilute tortoiseshell.  Beautiful markings!

I would suspect that being hungry at a young age has made her a little anxious about food.  If she bites, simply say "no" or hiss at her and withdraw you hand (or whatever she's biting).  Hissing is how mom would teach her manners.

Good job on this one!  Thanks for the update.
