I know some people who hear me rave about my kitties think I'm one of those crazy cat ladies - but who cares? Do you ever get feelings from friends and relatives that they think you're out of your mind? I know some people think I'm like that because we don't have any human children. But I now that even if I had a ton of human children I would still feel the same way about my cats. Sometimes it scares me about how much I adore those little 4 legged children! Some people will never understand the complete love they are missing.

Kookycats, we all love to talk about all of our cats and yes how cares ? If they don't like it,they don't belong on this site.My grandson calls me the cat lady,I only have Bella & Thunder. He had alot of cats /kittens before the mothers were spayed.I know he is tired of me talking about Bella. But I don't care. Bella is my baby. Thunder is my husbands.

I'm sure pretty much everyone around me thinks I'm nuts how much I love my cat - and everyone else's, but I don't care. It's me and cats are part of my life. Some of my friends love cats and the rest of them love other animals.   I hate being at home when I don't have a cat with me, I love human company too but some time without other people can feel good - but it's not without a cat.  The people I don't understand are those who don't love and care for animals and children - whether they are their own or not. The older I get the more I see people who don't care for animals as lacking compassion or empathy and if they have children I kind of feel sad for their children. I find it harder to trust people who don't care for animals, esp cats.  I love this site because I now feel in contact with other people who care about cats, and can share thoughts and feel understood without that crazy woman tag - at least not all the time!

I only talk about my cats to other cat lovers. I figure I don't want to hear about the person's kids because I don't have any myself, so I figure why would someone who doesn't have cats want to hear me talking about my cats.  But man!  Get me in a room with a fellow cat lover and watch out!  LOL  I'm one proud Momma!  hehe

hmmm.  I'm OCD (obsessive cat disorder).....oh, wait, it's not a disorder, they're the ones with a disorder....I'm not all that talkative, but I talk about  and make reference to my cats when I get a chance, I don't care what people think about them.  I know some of my acquaintances think I'm a nut.  Ask me what I'm into when I first meet you, if I have no idea what kind of person you are, don't matter, I'm likely to throw in something about cats.  Sometimes people discuss it no further, some are delighted.  (My kind of people!)  My brothers were at someplace recently where there was a meal and there were some people talking about litter boxes. While they were eating!  That's my kind of people!

I sometimes tone down my cat conversations "in the world" as the inmates would say where I work.  I hate going off on people about declawing and such; that's where conversations often lead.  It's bad for my blood pressure.  And I am confrontational creature by nature, so I am sometimes afraid I might tell someone what I really think of them.  I don't care what they think about how I feel about my cats (I've often said that I treat my cats better than a lot of people I know treat their children and it's true..most of them don't even know how to respond to that one).  I also don't care for their opinions about how much I spend on my cats (my money, my business).  Fortunately, the cat lovers in DH's and my own family are in the majority. They don't think I am a crazy cat lady at all; I am just one of the gang.  That's one of the many reasons I love TCS.  I know I'm in good company here.

For me, the reality is that I like animals, most especially cats, better than humans. Cats are intuitive and instinctive by nature. They don't choose "right or wrong" or make hurtful, stupid decisions like people do that oftentimes make me despise the entire human race.

Yes, my family thinks I'm nuts about how I fuss over my three cats and treat them like royalty, but I don't care. My cats are the first to greet me at the door after a long, hard day at work. They're next to me when I wake up first thing in the morning, and they're next to me cuddling in bed before saying goodnight. They patiently wait for me to get out of the shower as if the half hour I've been out of their site is eternity. They do something to make me smile or laugh when I'm feeling down. They sit next to me on the floor to "help" when I'm working on something. They're there...all the time...as my loyal companions. It's unrealistic for me to expect this kind of dedication from my human counterparts; I'd surely be disappointed.

DITTO!  I have no human children, by choice.  And I don't go on about my cat 'children' to anyone unless I know they're cat people.

I talk about the furkids to anybody who will listen. I figure that I have to listen to them talk about their kids, so they can listen to me, too. One of my co-workers is a true cat person and he'll usually come in every morning with a neat story to tell me about something one of his cats did. It's hilarious to listen to him; he loves those cats so much that he says he has to brag about them.

We do have a son, but he's 42 and married with his own family. And they don't live locally, so it's difficult to see them even on a weekly basis. The cats are my kids.

Crazy? Maybe. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have a friend who's obsessed with her dogs, past and present.  She goes on and ON about them at every opportunity which I find extremely boring--because everybody knows that cats are far more interesting to talk about, right?
I also don't particularly enjoy listening to people go on about the antics of their human children.  So I try to not do the same to people with my stories (although I think my cat stories are nothing but fascinating.....)

I was looking back at my post and it seemed more like a rant!  I apologize to all.  Just yesterday at work I got into a "discussion" with someone at work concerning declawing.  I was in rare form when I got home.  I wish I could change her mind, but it's one of those "consider the source" things.

Aw...no apologies necessary (at least not to me, anyway). You have every reason to be upset. At least you tried to get her to see your point of view. Sometimes, unfortunately, that's all we can do.

I keep changing the standards on what I consider the crazy mark. Way back when, I thought it was normal to have 5 or less cats. Years ago I surpassed that mark, so  I thought, ok, I'll have gone around the bend when I'm spending all of my free time tending to cats. After I reached that point, the criteria for craziness moved to lurking in the dark most of the night trying to trap a cat. Been there, done that many times. So... I started believing that I'm not crazy until I get the cops called on me as a suspicious person lurking in a dark parking lot in the wee hours of the morning because of cats. Do you see where this is going? Since then I have been unable to come up with anymore benchmarks so I just accept the fact that, yes, I am crazy.

That is amazing!  Bet you felt great when the cops arrived!
:)  Did they offer to help out?     You deserve a Cat Site Award  for dedication to the catcrazy cause.

I wear the title proudly, especially when people ask me for help, although  I knew I was approaching "crazy" when my husband offered to buy me a "black-ops" outfit for night trapping.  I declined but had a good laugh about it.

I do have a sign that says "we are one cat short of crazy here."
