Susan, we're pretty confident at this point it was plastic, but we're going to make sure. ;) The vet and the radiologist both think it's very possible it was plastic.

We are running behind, but Lazlo's follow-up ultrasound is scheduled for the 26th.

Ive been checking my emails regularly for this update. :p
Here is hoping it IS plastic. :) I can certainly see Diago doing that... since I stopped free feeding him he started chewing the bfs TV POWER CORD and XBOX POWER CORD... gawd the worst things he could try. -.- ...we found out last night and of course its my fault...apparently I should still be free feeding him because "he's starving so he has to try eat the power cords" . No, Tubby is not starving. lmao!

Aprilprey has a kitty chewing on all kinds of things - she bought him lamb pizzles. I think I'm going to try that for Lazlo.

I think the reason Diago is doing it is because he LOVES string.. seriously- the look on his face when you swing something string like is very intense. If there is a string toy around he will find it wherever hidden.. one time he ripped a string out of the carpet and I was in the other room and heard him gagging. I ran out and found him gagging with a string hanging out his mouth .. I pulled it out and it was like one of those clowns with the colourful hankies tied together.. it just kept coming out lol. (we taped all the carpet edges after that). Kay ill stop hijacking your thread now! :p

OK, we were back for the follow-up ultrasound this morning.

There was nothing in his stomach, it was empty. So we all guess that what Ken saw last time was a piece of plastic.

But now that it was empty, he could compare it with the last US. But he could see thickening of the stomach wall without the comparison, and his pancreas looks "distorted." These are "normal" for a kitty with large cell lymphoma (the key word there being "with". :( ).

Lazlo is not being officially declared out-of-remission. Not "yet."

But Ken thinks that whether or not we decide to do another round of chemo or not, to give us the option if it comes to it, then we need to get more aggressive about keeping tabs on what's going on inside of Laz. :heart2:

We take him back for an x-ray in a month.

:)

<---- Happy face on.

One day, one step at a time, right?

What matters is that at least right now, Lazlo feels great. He's still getting his kitty crazies, actively reminding everyone he's alpha; demanding brushes and attention (and we still "brush away" the cancer [for those not here during his chemo, I sit in the bathroom with Lazlo on my lap and sing to him about how we're brushing away the cancer. The modified song while in remission is that we're brushing away to keep the cancer at bay]. He LOVES brushes, and the bathroom is the only place in our home where a kitty can be alone with one of us); and he doesn't like eating his food all at one time at meals, so I let him finish when he wants. Yes, Lazlo is very, very spoiled, and loving every minute of it.

We soldier on.
Okay, Laurie - nothing in the stomach - this is what we were all pulling for!  YEA!

Bathroom Brushes:  Amazing - this is the place some of ours come for their brushes, too!  I have a towel ready to place on my lap and then it's first come, first served.

I can't resist them, even when I'm in a hurry, when they come asking - I almost always give them some time because I do believe that this is a very healthful thing I can do to help assure their well-being, physically and emotionally.  One thing I have noticed, though - sometimes after they receive a good brushing I'm not surprised when they throw a fur ball soon thereafter or the next day.  Go figure?

As for the cancer watch - this is agonizing.  You're not "soldiering on" by yourself - thank you for allowing us to share in your and Lazio's experience.

Is your song melody set to "We shall overcome"?

So last time he was showing definite signs that something was wrong, wasn't he?  And right now you aren't seeing any signs?

AT least he's not being officially declared "out of remission".  Oh man!  It still sucks that the second US wasn't perfect.

Many vibes that your very special boy keep going for years to come.  Are you going to change anything for now?  More chinese herbals or anything?

:hugs: Thank you so much, sweetie. And my song hasn't been, but I can include that! :lol3:

I notice that when I brush them without the furminator, it can leave a bunch of loose hair behind. And maybe it pulls out some of the undercoat but leaves it in place, so they ingest more when they clean? :dk:

This is good news, in a way, and I will remain positive!! Lazlo has been such a trooper and a fighter for you and for himself because of that aura of light and love you give off. :sun: He is basking in it everyday and he is, in a way, "spoiling" you with the glorious gift of time. The spoiling is much deserved and goes both ways. :heart3: I am in awe of the deep bond we develop with these furry little creatures!!! I almost feel like laughing :lol3: and crying :bawling: all at the same time because of such great love and COURAGE!!!! WE ALL ARE in this :soldier: "squad" together, with you, with Gary and with Lazlo, side by side, and will be here through it all. :D  :hugs: :hugs: :rub: :grphug: ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!! :heart3: And, keep on brushin' and singin' that song !!! :music: :music2: :music3: :winkblue:

-----------------------------------------------

side note: ;) I notice the same thing about the furminator and leaving loose hair behind. I go over them afterward with a slicker brush. But, do notice a hairball or two after a good brushing, like Gloria mentions. Yeah, go figure. :lol3:

So, a thickening is something sort of pre-c?  Something I never completely understood, does the thickening thin out while in remission or is it like scar tissue or something.

Hard to consider all this again, but at least you're ahead of the game.

Lazlo is my little man, and you are my girl.... So what I will hear for now is that he is not out of remission, and he is still doing awesome. For me that's plenty good. Love for both of you :hugs: :heart3:

:vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :hugs:

Sally, I missed this post. :hugs:

At the last ultrasound, there was something funny in the image. Turns out it was just plastic, so no, no definite signs that something was wrong. Just something unusual. Laz has a PICA about plastic ever since switching to timed meals. We try to keep all plastic hidden - he'd just done something new, which was to nibble at the plastic label on the cat litter container. :lol3:

So this time his stomach was empty, and it could be compared to prior ultrasounds. So this time they could see that there is now a thickening of his stomach wall lining, and his pancreas looks distorted. These are new, and not inconsistent with large cell lymphoma.

Dan32, I'll have to ask the vet the question, but based on Lazlo before-after-now ultrasounds, it seems that when in remission, the organs go back to normal.

And we're not going to change anything now. The antioxidants normally used in Chinese meds for cancer include things like curcumin (turmeric) - which isn't appropriate for Lazlo, because of his history with ulcers.

So his "anti-cancer" regimen right now is

125mg bovine lactoferrin 2x a day (Jarrow)
10mg of Ubiquinol 3x a day (Mercola pump)
Diet high in vitamin D (egg yolks, sardines, salmon oil)
Salmon oil - 500mg daily
Probiotics am and pm (1/8 capsule Nexabiotic 20-strain 2x a day; 1/2 capsule Natural Factors double-strength acidophilus+bifidus 2x a day)

I may add slippery elm bark powder & (George's) Aloe Vera Juice 3x a week for the anti-inflammatory action.

Lazlo remains on 2.5mg of pred daily (will discuss if that should be bumped back up to 5mg daily when he has the follow-up x-ray done).

He's also on 10mg of pepcid once a day, two weeks on, two weeks off.

And he's on the CoTW, which has a number of other antioxidants in it (Barley Grass Powder, Wheat Grass Powder, Organic Blueberries, & Carrots)
