Hi allNot sure if this is the right place to ask, but perhaps someone will point me in the right direction if not.We have two 6 month old kittens and I am considering whether to insure them or not. The only cat I had previously was very old and I just met the few vet trips we made with savings. However obviously I am hoping these two are going to be around for many years and although I will do everything to ensure they are in tip top health, I want to be realistic and prepared. Their initial vet visits (spaying/neutering/vaccinations/chips etc etc) came to around £600.We are in the UK so if anyone has any recommendations for particular providers/policies that would be great.I have used a comparison site and obviously life-time cover would be best and not just accident only policies. However I am debating whether it is just better to put some cash aside each month to save for any unforeseen vet visits rather than pay a formal policy as a) all the good ones are very expensive and b) I worry about reading all the fine print and then it turning out the blasted thing doesn't cover the bill you get landed with.Would be interested to hear your thoughts! If it makes any difference, we think Dennis and Squish are probably ragdoll/siamese cross and they are indoor cats who enjoy an occasional walk in our garden on a lead!p.s Any ideas why all the formatting/spacing goes out of my posts when I submit from the computer? Apologies for this

Hi there,

I think it is dependant where you live I know in the states there is this great insurance company called pets best which a lot of people are very happy with on here. I found a couple threads on plans in the UK you can look through (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/84021/pet-insurance-in-the-uk) and (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/149130/uk-pet-insurance) I have no idea if these companies are any good so you should probably look up the reviews online as well.

I live in Canada and from all the online reviews I have read most insurance plans are kind of a scam and it is always a hedache to get things covered and they have very high monthy fees. If I wanted to get my two cats covered it would be like $100 a month and there are so many stories of the comapnies not covering things despite the high rates. I currently have a 17 year old dog and while I have had to pay a lot this past year on a dental and blood work if I had paid for insurance every month I would have paid much more money to the insurance company than they would have paid out. I have decided to just put money aside for them and to invest in preventative care by feeding them a good species appropriate diet. I believe a lot of the health problems in cats is caused by a bad diet and you can read more about this on (www.catinfo.org).

Thanks Franksmom - I will have a look at those threads you suggest but am inclined to agree with your method of just tackling costs as and when they arise.

I had a pet with a plan and got her fixed and it would have cost me around $600 but wit a plan it only cost me $400 for the year. I have always had pomeranians and they have to have dental cleanin so its always safer to get a plan since everything costs so much. I am looking into a plan right now for all four of my animals which will cost me $100 a month and now I need to look into the savings but I do know when I took them in to get shot recently I paid three times that for just two animals.
